Have dined here many many times with my husband and food is always good. Always seem to be served by the same waiter who most definately needs to brush up on people skills. Comes across very abrupt and as someone already comminted when there are people he knows or a larger table than a party of 2 that he is serving they get priority . Atmosphere is nice but could be made more cozy. Is one of the better casual restaurants in the durham region .
The food is truly exceptional. The restaruant itself is in need of a makeover. I thought the singing entertainment was quite good as well...sort of made the experience better. The older waiter really needs to work on his people and service skills. The owners should probably replace him.
The service was not good. The waiter paid more attention to the large table behind us and kept us waiting at every course of the meal. If the waiter was too busy, the host/hostess should have checked us but they were nowhere to be seen. The bill would have been much higher but no one was checking to see if we wanted anything else. The food was good but I wouldn't say it is the best for italian given the price. The penne could have been from anywhere - the steak was very good and I enjoyed the salad. For an italian restaurant, the cappuc was terrible, tasted like milky hot chocolate. Lastly, the atmoshpere is severly lacking. Very cold and uninviting. I would not recommend this restaurant for the price.
I've had the pleasure to dine here many times since moving to Whitby in late 2007. With a noteworthy wine list, and exquisitely prepared food, this is simply my #1 pick for Italian fare in Durham.
I noted the comment in another review about table noise, and THIS IS NOT the fault of the restaurant, here or anywhere else. Noisy children, loud patrons happen. Stay home if you don't like being around other people, and or can not handle it. But don't blame the restaurant, or grade them badly because of their patrons.
I will stake my reputation as a wine consultant and connoisseur and recommend Bella Notte across the board. I travel and eat out extensively, and this is a place NOT to missed. I've had several special business dinners, and personal events here and never had anything but the best in service and quality meals

Our first visit happened by default, another restaurant could not take our reservation. Lucky for us! The atmosphere was excellent, nice enough that we felt we were having a special night out, but casual enough, that we didn't feel uncomfortable with our toddler.
The food was second to none, every dish was excellent, fresh tasting and delicicous. The grilled calamari was the best I've ever tasted, and the scallops in the linguini were cooke perfectly/ Portion sizes were generous, and the service was great. It is refreshing to find a restaurant making real honest great tasting food. We will definitely be back!
