I was first introduced to Island Cream about two years ago when I walked by and had a peek inside their window. The chef working there waved me in and promised me the best sandwich in Peterborough. I figured I might as well give it a try and I wasn't dissapointed.
Island Cream is one of my favorite places for quick and delicious food for lunch or dinner. I most often get Roti to go, but recent interior paint work has greatly improved the atmosphere if you should choose to eat in. Their style of food is a healthier alternative to other quick foods available downtown. To compliment their distinctly Carribean cuisine they offer a wide variety of Carribean fruit juices and ever popular mango milkshakes.
Island cream also has the distinction of catering to vegans. Meat is available in their rotis and other meals; however their uncompromisingly tastey vegetarian Rotiis completely animal product free and is only five bucks.
I would highly recomend Isaland Cream for a quick and casual lunch or dinner to anyone who enjoys good food.

An absolute hole-in-the-wall of a place in what is becoming one of Peterborough's restaurant hot spots - but still worth lunch.
The service ranges from indifferent to friendly and chatty. The front end of the place could stand more attention (lose the dead pop fridge, be tidier with your stock, clean up a little more promptly).
That stuff aside, I visit often for a beef roti. Inexpensive, well prepared and tasty. Not excessively spicy or with too much curry, so managable for most. Quite savory, ask for more pepper if you're looking for more of that Caribbean heat.

The food is delicious. I've had rotis in Grenada and Toronto, and they're comparable. Very savoury, tender meat, generous portion and a steal for $7. However, the restaurant, washroom and kitchen are filthy.
This a very basic restaurant- unmatched furniture, not licensed, "early beat-up" decor. HOWEVER...if you like a roti, it's hard to beat in Peterborough.
Absolutely delicious, and quite large.
(makes two lunches for me)
