Not quite the same anymore...

Went again a few times lately, and it seems like the food isn't holding up as it used to... Their stir fried vermicilli doesn't have enough meats and veggies mixed in, and their baked rice has become a bit sloppy... Hopefully, it's only in one of its funks lately...

Chinese Fast Food In All Its Glory

While this "restaurant" is set up like a fast-food place and the seating is not very comfortable. The food is definitely worth it! Fast, fresh off the wok, flavorful, and rustic! Serving some of the best Cantonese styled Chinese dishes! Bear in mind that the chef takes days off sometimes, and (sadly) the quality of the dishes from the kitchen reflects his absence. So some marks have to be deducted for the inconsistencies. This is also a rather 'low-end', fast-food styled restaurant, so if you're looking for Fine-Dining Chinese foods, this is not the place for you. One thing to note is that most of the items on the menu are written in Chinese, and the items with English translations are limited, so it would be best if you bring a friend that can read Chinese! The price is ABSOLUTELY amazing for the flavor you get! Around $28 (tax included) for 4 dishes and 4 bowls of rice plus 4 cups of soy milk. The style of the food is 100% Cantonese-Chinese fast food, and there are no mutant-Americano-Chinese dishes there. So if you're looking for some American-fusion-Chinese, this is not the place for you! Here are some dishes that I like: 1. Chow Mein with Pork and Beansprouts (Pronounced: Yuk See Chow Mein) >>This is what chow mein is supposed to be. Crispy pan fried chow mein base topped with the hot ooey-gooey-ness of pork and beansprout stir fry. 2. Porkchops with an Onion & Sweet Tomato Sauce (Pronounced: Ging Doe Yuk Pai) >>Tender chops swimming in a sweet tomato sauce. Mmm-MMM! The sauce resembles more of sweet-and-sour like sauce, so don't expect an Italian-influenced sauce! 3. Eggplant With Minced Meat Pot (Pronounced: Yue Heung Ke Ji) >> Flavorful pot with a hint of salted-fish. I say hint, because it is the wonderful aroma and flavor of that salted-fish that subtly lifts this dish up (you never really see the fish). Best accompanied with a big bowl of rice so that you can lap up all the flavorful sauces! This dish is one of the 'inconsistency prone' dishes, where the wonderful flavor of the salted-fish might go missing! 4. Sweet & Sour Pork (Pronounced: Goo low yuk) >>A Canto-Chinese restaurant staple! Succulent chopped pork ribs in an aromatic pineapple-bell pepper-sweet & sour sauce! (Beware of this dish when the chef is not in!! The meat gets rather dry!!) 5. Shrimp & Eggs/ Shrimp Foo Yung (Pronounced: Wad daan ha yun) >>Although they use frozen shrimp, the meat is 'crisp', and the egg is not over-done. 6. Tofu & Garoupa Pot (Pronounced: Tofu Yu Larm Bow) >>This fried tofu and fish steak medley is simply wonderful when paired with the thick-soy sauce infused sauce!
