absolutely tasty--first time trying a vegetable samosa; stunning to the tastebuds; pleasing to the senses; exciting for the mind--the vegetable samosa, an experience to remember. Thanks.
Many things jump to mind when one thinks of Guelph. Sleeman Beer, The Veterinary College... Indian Food is not one of them. Diva may be set to change that perception. Being vegetarian, it can be difficult to find places to eat when out, but when in Guelph, Diva will be a regular stop for me. The food was wonderful. The presentation was elegant, in an interesting array of dishes. The flavors were complex but distinct, and seemed to nicely complement each other. There were several menu choices for a pure Vegan, and many more to choose from if a little dairy is not an issue for you. The Bindhi, an OKRA dish, was especially good. Okra is often overcooked to mushiness, but not here. It was still flavourful, with a pleasant texture in the mouth, and spices complimented the flavour rather than covering it up. Lkashumber Salad was a nice starter, composed mostly of English cucumber in a spicy dressing. The heat and flavour were intense and pleasing, but left only a mild heat in the lips when done. They certainly seem to understand that there can be too much of a good thing, and don't take things to extremes. The Dal was made with Black Lentils in a thick brown sauce, and was probably the best I have eaten. I was previous only familiar with the standard yellow dal, black lentils not being commonly available in North America, or so I'm told by my Indian friends. If I was forced to say something negative, the only thing I could find is MAYBE, an overuse of cloves in the Biryani. If that is the only thing you can change, then you have found Indian Food that is as close to perfection as it is possible to be. I will HAVE to return to Diva soon, as there were several more dishes that I want to try, and we were simply too full to continue. Believe me, this is a definite MUST try.
As "seasoned" veterans of some of the Indian establishments in town, our first visit to Diva was an incredible experience. The freshest and best Indian Cuisine we have tasted in a long time. Will definately replace our visits to other establishments in town with regular visits to Diva!
I have always had an excellent experience at Diva's. The food is always hot and very flavourful. The atmosphere is warm and casual, and the wait staff is very friendly and helpful. We enjoy our Indian mild and they always accommodate that. Overall, an excellent dinning experience and will be back many more times.
Our party of 5 came in towards the end of the night and we were accomadated with great class and professionalism at that time. I have experienced places that try to push you out at closing with little or no respect. And now for the food, there are many new items on the menu that I tried and loved each one. The sizzling taste and spices were quite flavourful and cooked to perfect preference. The chef's chicken was amazing, to have 3 different flavoured chicken on one platter and made differently was creative. The prices were a steal for the amount and quality of food that was ordered. And of course the atmosphere and service was impecable. Keep up the great work Diva and we'll see each other again.
