This was our first visit to the Diana Downtown since they completed the reno's. First impression - nice. They have really updated the restaurant, sort of "a la Restaurant Makeover" choosing bold colours and accoutrements that make the appearance and atmosphere very different than it was. We were seated in the main dining room, which is now boldly painted red and has very high ceilings. When the, menu, which has been "gussied up" presentation wise, came, I was relieved to see two things - it has remained the same with only a few additions and the prices are the same. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, as usual, and the service was pretty good too, although the restaurant was extremely busy, which slowed things down a bit. So here's my final sum up - the atmosphere has changed somewhat - the "family dining" atmosphere has been replaced by a more upscale, trendy feel. That may change the clientele somewhat. The restaurant is quite a bit noisier due to the new high ceiling - they may have to rectify that one. The food is the same and still great! I would highly recommend a visit to the new Diana Downtown!
The meal I had was beyond compare. Chicken vindaloo...the spiciest thing on the menu and perhaps the spiciest thing available in a Guelph restaurant, yet flavourful and amazing with a beer. Service was great, and the atmosphere was very enjoyable.
My wife and I have enjoyed dinner at the Diana many times over the past several years (at least monthly). It has also been a good destination for the occassional breakfast. Generally I can say the same thing about each experience: the service is average at best, but the food is top notch. Many of the serving staff are either young and inexperienced, or give the impression that they have been wait staff for too long. Making up for average service are very attentive owners who welcome everybody into their restaurant. They are very sincere in wanting all customers to enjoy their stay. With a recent make over (they were approached by restaurant makeover on the food network twice but declined and did the work themselves), the diner atmosphere has transformed into a very nice place for a meal. Highly recommend any of the tandoori meals, the curries and samosas. The food is great (my favourite in Guelph), the atmosphere is there now, if only the service was better.
excellent, friendly service, well timed devlivery of each course, food was excellent, approx. $55/person inl. wine & desert. Recommend to anyone enjoying south Asian food.
