Sometimes I visit Brantford area for work I go to this place for a quick lunch. It's cheap, $10 per person. There isn't too many items to choose from, but hey, it's $10. The curries and rice are nice. I especially like their Tandoori chicken. It's not dry, it's moist and soft. However, sometimes they don't refill it too much when it's empty. The service is ok... for $10 I really don't expect too much.
We had read reviews about this place and decided to visit it one night. We were definitely not disappointed! When we first walked in, we were seated right away. The decor was very nice and casual. Our server was so polite, we were impressed with his kindness. We then chose to eat from the Indian style buffet. It was so delicious! They had tons of foods to choose from, I loved it! Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I will definitely go back!
First reviewer (Jeremiah) referred to me dragging him here back in 2008 to experience the wonderful food. I was really impressed until three nights ago... The food is still remarkably good, but something has changed substantially and the economy hasn't improved enough to support it yet. Three adults and a kid, late dinner (9-ish), had the buffet (Good Goat Curry, Nice Butter Chicken, Mattar Paneer, et al, as usual). The kid had a small plate of rice, and some of the fresh fruit and a bit of Naan. Just canned pop and water, without fancies like Mango Lassi or Chai. Price? $72 before tip, of which $10 was for the kid, so about $18/per adult before taxes. I didn't find out until after we'd left the restaurant. Bear in mind there are about 12 "main" items on the buffet (most good quality, above average) but this is not Modern Indian Buffet ($18/person) in Hamilton with a large staff and dozens & dozens of items. They may have the best Gajar Halva anywhere, but their new prices may keep me away.
It's great that Brantford is finally allowing some ethnic places in! It's about time! The free naan is excellent! Lots of choice on the buffet.
Buffet was ok, service was poor. Had to go find someone to order tea. I was expecting more variety. The buffet location is tight. If, however you are looking for a quick buffet bite, and pay quickly for lunch- this will do the trick.
There's nothing bad I can say about this place. Polite, attentive wait-staff, very well stocked buffet with good variety, an extensive menu for take out, and very good Indian food. In particular, butter chicken, samosas and vegetable korma from the buffet were fresh, hot and very authentic. We've been here three times and it's been consistently good.
Absolutely wonderful darling! The buffet is worth every penny and more, meat so tender, desserts so sweet, I had to stop eating but I didn't want to because the food is so delicious. Excellent value for your money, highly recommended.
Are you kidding me , I havent had Indian food that good in 15 years. Wow fantastic. We will be back ,Don't know how to spell it but Chicken madruis , butter chicken , Samosa's ,some spicy some not and nan bread to die for !!! regular or garlic Just try it , i drove by last year and regret not stopping in
This is now, perhaps, one of the best Indian restaurants in SW Ontario. We've been to many, but dish after dish seems better here. We love the lamb vindaloo, and the Chiken Tikka.
Finally had a night out without the kids to try it. Definitely worth the trip. Food was excellent and the service was great. Not the best Bloody Caeser I've had, but live and learn.
We've been hesitating to visit Taal, not being sure that an Indian restaurant in the old Harvey's building would be all that great. We've been missing out, apparently, as this was the best East Indian food we've ever had. The service was very good-the only issue being the charming accent our server had. We had to wait a little while for the buffet to be ready, but it was worth the wait. We will return, definitely, to try the things we couldn't fit on our plates first time around!
My wife and I are originally from Vancouver, where Punjabi restaurants are plentiful. However, this restaurant is better than most of the Punjabi restaurants we've been to in Vancouver and Surrey. Unlike the Indian buffets in Vancouver, the food at this restaurant is nice and hot. Most of the Indian buffets in Vancouver generally have lukewarm food. The host, Lakhi was very friendly. If you like to order food from the menu, this restaurant also offers that. However, when he first started up, nobody in Brantford seemed to know how to order Indian food, so he had to switch from lunch only buffet to lunch and supper buffet. If you would like to try traditional Indian dishes, I would personally suggest the following: - alu gobi (alu means potato and gobi means cauliflower) - palak paneer (palak means spinach and paneer is an Indian cheese that has the texture of a firm tofu) - chili chicken (clay oven baked chicken (tandoori) with a nice, warm chili sauce) - butter chicken (tandoori chicken with a delicious chili/butter/cream sauce) - naan (unleavened flat bread, cooked in the clay oven) And as the Punjabis would say, 'Tee-kah', which means 'thank you'.
awesome food..awesome service....a little jewel in Brantford.......!!!!
We first tried Taal for take out 3 weeks ago and have now dined in twice. The food is amazing. I have been to Indian Restaurants across Canada and my husband has been to them across the globe including ones in Punjab. This is by far the best Indian food either of us have had. The owners are fabulous and their service is impeccable. We will definitely be regulars, it is the best food in Brantford. Keep up the excellent work!
We have dined in Taal's numerous time and have never been disappointed. The food is usually really good quality and taste that is incomparable to anything else in Brantford for Indian food (Taal's surpasses all of them!) The only dine-in issue we have had is the food has been cool-warm occasionally, which they corrected as soon as we told them and they had some inexperienced servers which made placing and ordering food off the menu difficult. We recently tried their lunch take-out and were very disappointed because the food was cold and the portion sizes were inadequate for $8.99. They were running low on Buttered Chicken and in each container we only got 3 ping-pong ball sized pieces, it was mainly the sauce. We have been to many Indian restaurants and many of them will let you fill your own take-out container with whatever you want (we prefer this as you can get more variety - like you would if you ate in at the buffet.) At Taal's, they allow you to select only 4 items to put into the take-out container and they fill the container. Our problem was that the food was cold and that they gave us a lot of rice and buttered chicken sauce compared to the amount of chicken. I would recommend Taal's for dine-in only. For service, food quality/quantity, value, etc.
This is the hidden gem of Brantford, the atmosphere was great, staff friend, portions huge, and most imporantly food was really good...perfect on a cold winter's day, warmed us right up, and we even had left overs to take home! The food got better on the second day!
Excellent food and service. Just try the butter chicken and chilly chicken( U will forget about any other food)This is my favourite and NO1 place now . It's a wonderful enviorment and very tasty food. Keep it up and good luck.
Myself (and my entire family, including my very picky Indain mother) have been all over the Globe and sampled Indian food, including everything from London Ontario to London England to India itself and I have to tell you the meal at this restaurant stands out as one of the best. It was absolutely amazing, the service was wonderufl, the inside of the restaurant was well done (don't let the outside fool you). Every dish was just the right amount of spice and most importantly authentic. Now that I've found this gem I'm most certainly giong to be a regular!
Looks are decieving from the outside, but once you get in the setting is comfortable. I believe the owners will outgrow thie size of the place they have now. Moma runs the tables and Dady is cooking all day and night. They have a great zest for food and service. Friendly and they did their research before settling in Brantford. We have been there 4 times and I can,t say enough about the food. I hope they don't venture away from the way they started. 2 thumbs up.
Service was great, Music, table and atmosphere was befitting of the Indian food. Will attend again and again.
