"We offer a lot of education in the store, both for new parents and gift buyers," says Jen MacCormack, owner of Hip Baby.

When Jen bought the store in 2008, it already had a reputation for being the only place in Vancouver where you could buy cloth diapers. "We kept that," says Jen, "and today we are still the only store offering not only a collection of cloth diapers, but also a course teaching new moms how to buy and care for non-disposable diapers."

Non-disposable items are a big focus for the store. "I do a lot of research into where items are made, what they're made of and how durable and sustainable they are," says Jen. "It's important to us that the products we sell will survive use by multiple children."
