Wood floors are the pride of many homes, but a damaged wood floor can be unsightly. Many common issues are easy to conceal and easier to prevent.
Disguise the damage
Wood floors are usually protected by layers of wax or a coat of tough polyurethane varnish. Waxed floors are especially vulnerable to scuffs, scratches and staining.
Use some abrasive to remove the marks
Most stains and heat marks on waxed wood floors can be removed by rubbing the surface with fine steel wool or sandpaper (for deeper stains) and then feathering in wax to finish.
Wood floors look great and are warm underfoot, but they are easily damaged. When shifting heavy furniture on a wood floor, slip a thick sock onto each leg of the table or cabinet. Not only will this prevent you from damaging the floor, but you may also be able to slide the furniture instead of lifting it. Try moving it a small distance first, checking as you go that you are not leaving a mark.
