Unbeatable veggie burgers veggie burgers in Calgary

Locating a good veggie burger in a beef town like Calgary hasn’t always been easy, but the options are multiplying. Some enlightened restaurants now even serve more than one meatless burger (gasp!) as you’ll read below.

National

1
180 Stewart Green SW, Calgary, AB T3H 3C8

Calgary vegetarians know it can be hard to find a decent non-meat burger close at hand. Not only does National have multiple city locations, they all feature a moist but not meaty veggie burger. Its house-made patty rides a brioche bun topped with avocado, sprouts and more. Accompany with soup, salad or fries.

Boogie's Burgers

1-908 Edmonton Trail NE, Calgary, AB T2E 3K1

This friendly, wee burger hut serves big, beautiful beef stacks with fries and onion rings on the side, Boogie’s one concession to our health-conscious times is its Shroom a le-Gume. The burger’s house-made mushroom and black bean patty is dressed with lettuce, tomato and onion with lemon-garlic aioli.

Blue Star Diner

809 1 Ave NE, Calgary, AB T2E 0C2

Many is the menu featuring but one token veggie burger. In a nod to veg fans who crave variety, Blue Star serves three, including total-vegan and Mediterranean options. The BSD Veggie Burger sports a custom-made patty with (among other options) Sylvan Star aged cheddar and fried potato skins.

Flipp'n Burgers

103-330 10 St NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1V8

Also featuring multiple veggie-burger options, this closet-sized diner will set you up with any of three meat-free taste sensations. There’s the Mexi-influenced black-bean burger, the vegan burger featuring a patty of brown rice, veg and oats, as well as a chick-pea and fava-bean falafel burger topped with hummus.

The quintessential Mexican meal, tacos are also a relatively scarce commodity in Calgary. However, we’ve done some digging and unearthed the select few restaurants that make truly marvelous versions of these hand-held snacks.
The city’s summer season features a delicious dance card of culinary festivals and events. Many, such as Stampede-time pancake breakfasts, are easy to access the day of, but the various tasting and tippling shindigs listed here can fill up quickly, so purchasing tickets sooner than later for these foodie festivities is recommended. The city’s pathway system is one of the longest in North America. Given its lengthy stretches, the occasional rest and snack stop, though few and far between, are a welcome sight when walking, biking and inline skating. Here are a few restaurants, cafés and snack shacks located on or near our scenic cycling system. Image credit: iStock.com/mihailomilovanovic.
