Not your typical Thanksgiving fare in Montreal

Let’s face it, we’re only happy about Thanksgiving because we get a day off from work! It’s not a big holiday like our neighbours to the south but that doesn’t mean we can’t go out and celebrate with a good meal and a fun experience. Here are some fun Montreal alternatives to the traditional turkey dinner. We’re thankful that we live in Montreal with all of these amazing restaurants!

We know, what’s so different about Italian food? How about the fact that Toucheh serves Persian food on Mondays, which is perfect for Thanksgiving Monday! Toucheh makes you feel right at home in their family-run Westmount location. Start your meal with mirza ghassemi, which is smoked eggplant with garlic, and a tomato and onion purée, and for a little richness, add an egg! They also have Chelo-Mahicheh, a lamb dish to rival all others. Try the Cornish game hen, for that Thanksgiving poultry feel. And did we mention it’s also a BYOB?

The holidays are about indulgence so why not go for the ultimate indulgence with Au Pied de Cochon and all that foie gras! Martin Picard’s restaurant is a bastion for decadence. It’s closed on Monday so tell the family that Thanksgiving is being celebrated on Sunday this year! Order the famous duck in a can, which they ceremoniously present at your table or go all out and get their Plateau PDC, filled with clams, oysters, mussels, octopus and more! If you plan ahead, get a reservation at the Pied de Cochon Cabane à Sucre for apple season, this can easily become a new family tradition.

Dinette Triple Crown might serve the closest thing to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with their exceptional fried chicken and Southern fare. Weather permitting, they pack you a picnic basket for the park across the street! Thankfully, the weather has been cooperative of late so a Thanksgiving picnic is a lovely idea, and if it gets chilly you can eat in the restaurant. They have some of the best fried chicken in the city. And don’t forget the traditional Southern sides of mac n’ cheese, greens, cornbread, hushpuppies and more. Make sure to save room for dessert, they have some killer pies!
