Whether it be your difficult in-laws who are visiting, your party animal roommate from university or your workout-obsessed brother, it’s good to have a roster of fun things to do around the city when you have visitors from out of town. These Vancouver attractions will impress even your most challenging guests. [Photo © Yellow Pages / Pages Jaunes]
No active Vancouverite would entertain out-of-town guests who love the outdoors without a hike up The Grind or a day of skiing on one of our great local mountains. In summer, challenge your guests with the intense climb up to the top. In winter, ride the gondola and then hit the slopes. Or if that’s too much, go ice skating on the mountaintop pond high above the city – it’s complimentary with the cost of your gondola ticket.
Stanley Park is a must on the itinerary for your special guests. Rent bikes at Stanley Park Cycle and enjoy Vancouver’s natural scenic wonders – ocean, beaches, local wildlife, mountains, sky and trees. There’s nothing like a relaxing pedal around Stanley Park's famous Seawall.
Tour Guys is a Toronto/Vancouver outfit that offers private tours through various districts of the city, including Gastown and Chinatown, as well as a great craft beer tour. They also offer a limited number of free tours on certain days – you’ll only have to pay a gratuity.
BC’s Architectural Institute runs the walking tours through July and August, which focuses on the buildings, design and history of various Vancouver neighbourhoods. Each tour is between one and a half and two hours long, and they’re happy to book private tours too.
