Excellent brunches in Quebec City

A universal sign that you are on holiday: you have the time to eat breakfast quietly and thoroughly. Vive le brunch! Although you can satisfy your appetite at numerous establishments in Quebec City, I offer you my favourite restaurants where you can enjoy an excellent brunch on weekends.

Le Clocher Penché

1
203, rue Saint-Joseph E, Québec, QC G1K 3B1

The must-see of must-see's: le Clocher penché. Located on rue Saint-Joseph, this bistro serves the most original breakfast dishes I've seen. It moves away from the traditional egg-bacon breakfast. It offers instead dishes such as L'oeuf charistie, or a panko-crusted Angus beef croquette, with ratatouille and fried egg, or L'abbé Chamel, a poached egg placed on a buckwheat waffle, Turlo farm ham, brie cheese, bechamel sauce, mushrooms and hash browns. Word games and a full stomach will be on the agenda!

Chez Boulay Bistro Boréal

2
1110, rue Saint-Jean, Québec, QC G1R 1S4

Between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, you can enjoy savouring one of the brunch dishes of chefs-owners Arnaud Marchand (winner of the show Les Chefs!) and Jean-Luc Boulay. While enjoying brunch at the rue St-Jean location, you will taste, among other items, their homemade smoked meat placed on a waffle, their meat pie with scrambled eggs or their Béarnaise sauce steak, with egg and poutine on the side. It's a promise that this feast will satisfy your appetite until dinnertime!

Paris Grill

3
2820 Boulevard Laurier, Ville de Québec, QC G1V 0C1

Located on boulevard Laurier, minutes from the bridges, Paris Grill offers a variety of gourmet and savoury brunch dishes. The salty-sweet undecided opt for the Pont des arts - scrambled eggs with diced bacon, French toast with bananas and chocolate sauce, and a cup of vanilla yogurt covered in strawberry coulis and homemade granola. The restaurant's must-have? The oeufs bénédictine 1608 (eggs benedict 1608), or a poached egg over potato rösties, homemade pulled ham, 1608 cheese from Laiterie de Charlevoix and homemade hollandaise sauce. And try the homemade pork rillettes!

Le Café du Monde

4
84 Rue Dalhousie, Québec, QC G1K 8M5

For tourists but also for locals, Café du monde offers not only delicious brunches, but also spectacular views of the river. Opt for one of their gourmet breakfasts, their eggs benedict or one of their omelettes. But above all, try their cocottes! My favourite: la Fermière (the farmer), consisting of two poached eggs, shredded duck, leek, spinach, arugula (rocket), potatoes, grated cheddar and homemade hollandaise sauce.

La Bûche, Cabane à Sucre

5
49, rue Saint-Louis, Québec, QC G1R 3Z2

Steps from the Château Frontenac is La Bûche, a friendly restaurant where cabane à sucre (sugar shack) dishes are wonderfully reinvented. If we can enjoy marvelous dinners there, we'll take advantage of our Saturday and Sunday mornings to try the omelette d’la grand-mère (Grandma's Omelette), the assiette d’la cabane (Sugar Shack Plate) or the cassolette du bûcheron (Lumberjack's Cassolette), accompanied by a mimosa d’la cabane (sugar shack mimosa) (at will between 10:00 am and 11:00 am!).

Pied Bleu Charcuterie Le

6
179, rue Saint-Vallier O, Québec, QC G1K 1J9

The reputation of this friendly Lyon-style bouchon (a bouchon is a typical Lyon, France type of restaurant) is well established. The quality of their cured meats and their boudin (black pudding) makes it a go-to restaurant in Quebec City. For brunch, we take the opportunity to taste their meats in the Assiette de l’ouvrier (worker's plate). For the sweet tooth, we opt for the assiette Cochon (pig plate), but there is no pig: it is apple bread pudding, apple butter and Calvados Chantilly cream.

Ciel! Bistro-bar

7
1225 Cours du Général de Montcalm, Québec, QC G1R 4W6

Le Ciel! is the great new place from the Groupe Restos Plaisirs (the Restos Plaisirs restaurant group) located at the top of the Hôtel Le Concorde de la Grande-Allée. We go there for the cuisine directed by David Forbes, but also for the splendid view that this revolving restaurant offers. At brunch, you can try the omelette made with ricotta, peppers, asparagus, ham, arugula (rocket) or the semi-smoked salmon plate which also includes a poached egg, fried potatoes, kale and hollandaise sauce.

Hot, crispy and flaky, croissants add a magical touch to any morning. No need to travel to Paris to enjoy a good one – Quebec City and its South Shore are full of places where you can enjoy these irresistible goods. When you set foot in these bakeries, we bet you won't be able to resist the aroma of the freshly baked pastries either!
