Vancouver-based designer and HGTV host Kelly Deck is known for her elegant-yet-effortless West Coast aesthetic. No matter what sort of project she and her team are working on, this talented design specialist knows the importance of good lighting. From ultra modern, bespoke installations to romantic crystal chandeliers, here are a few of Kelly’s favourite lighting shops for fabulous fixtures.
This spectacular shop just down on Carrall Street is one of my top picks for really modern lighting. LightForm carries some of the most beautiful contemporary light fixtures out there and the stunning showroom is a really impactful place to have a look at them. Whether you’re looking for decorative, outdoor or architectural fixtures, this company is always on top of the most current innovations in design.
Located in Vancouver’s historic Gastown neighbourhood, Inform Interiors is another incredible vendor for lighting. If you’re into the world of modern and minimalist, they have an extensive collection of pendants, wall lights, table lamps, chandeliers, ceiling lights and more lighting options in a variety of different price points. The team at Kelly Deck Designs shops here for high end, modern fixtures for both indoor and outdoor projects.
If you’re looking for traditional lighting, Lighting Warehouse in Richmond has a huge selection of entry-level to mid-market fixtures; it’s a great shop to visit for both the price point and the variety. If you’re hunting for a classic sconce or a romantic crystal chandelier for your dining room table, this is the place to go.
Light Resource is vendor we work with a lot at Kelly Deck Design when sourcing architectural lighting. They’re experts when it comes to innovative and task-oriented lighting systems for urban spaces. This is a great place to shop if you need a fixture to illuminate an alcove or if you’re looking for very modern square pot lights that have no trim.
Livingspace in Vancouver’s Armoury District is another great resource for contemporary decorative light fixtures. Located in the former Mitchell Press building, the 19,000-square-foot showroom was designed by Omer Arbel and is a beautiful gallery-like place to explore. They carry very playful, luxurious fixtures from international designers in a fairly wide range of modern styles.
The general public loves this spot for the affordable, everyday fixtures. Robinsons specializes in transitional and traditional lighting at an entry-level to mid-market price point. Instead of bold modern designs, you’ll find a good selection of standard, practical lighting options, including chandeliers, flush mounts, track lighting, recessed lights and outdoor lanterns.
Antique Warehouse is a fantastic spot to find vintage chandeliers and really affordable, high-quality reproductions covering everything from mid-century modern to art deco design. Not only do they carry lighting, there’s also a great collection of antique period furniture and unusual vintage pieces imported from Europe. It’s a really fun place to browse around and you can always find an affordable and unique light fixture there.
