Our Optometrists
Harry Bohnsack
Dr. Bohnsack was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, and grew up in Fredericton. He attended the University of New Brunswick before earning his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo. He stayed in Ontario to practice in Ottawa for some time before opening his own practice in Oakville. After starting a family with his wife and partner, Dr. Paula Steffler, the two decided to return to the Maritimes and moved their practice to Fredericton in 1995. Dr. Bohnsack is happy to provide full-scope care to patients of all ages, including comprehensive eye exams, myopia control, contact lens fittings, and low vision aids. He enjoys helping patients fully understand their eye health and helping them find the perfect eyewear to suit their vision needs. Dr. Bohnsack served the New Brunswick Association of Optometrists as Media and Public Relations Chair and President from 2003-2005 and is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists he's currently Vice-President and plans to serve as President soon! He also volunteers for the Fredericton Sunrise Rotary Club as a Past President. When not at work, Dr. Bohnsack can be found on the tennis court or enjoying the company of his wife and their 3 adult children. His other interests include travel, music, and trivia.
Paula Steffler
Dr. Steffler was born and raised in Kitchener-Waterloo and received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo. After graduating, she practiced in Ottawa and Oakville for eight years before choosing to move to Fredericton in 1995 with her husband and partner, Dr. Harry Bohnsack. Dr. Steffler provides comprehensive eye care and thoroughly enjoys the relationships she has developed with her patients over the years. She finds it immensely rewarding to utilize current eye care technologies to help them see their best. In 2013, Dr. Steffler developed a passion for painting. She finds that her background in optometry has been helpful to her understanding and use of color and light. You can see her work on our clinic walls or on her Instagram, @paulastefflerart. When she's not painting or practicing, Dr. Steffler enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
