The goal being caught by someone else, known as a catcher, swinging on another trapeze. Many first-timers are able to do this after just one class. Trapeze is a fun and safe activity for everyone.
Somewhat tucked away in a former cinema in the Rue Saint-Denis is the Château de Cirque, a space specifically dedicated to circus arts. It’s here that Trapezium, a company that allows people to experience the circus, has chosen to call home.
Open to adults and children, Trapezium offers several workshops up in the air or on the ground. Their specialty is the flying trapeze, an act that involves launching from one trapeze to be caught by a person on another. “The flying trapeze is scary, but it’s pretty easy, even for people who aren’t in shape,” says Karin Arseneault, owner of Trapezium.
A former business professional, Karin has been a circus artist and the owner of Trapezium for about 12 years now. “There are a lot of artists who don’t want to manage the business side of things at all,” she explains. “The fact that I come from that other world and became an artist later in life allows me to wear both hats.”
SO much fun! We went as a group of 4 and did a private lesson. We had lots of time to learn and practice and we even got to try moving from one trapeze to a person on a second one.
