Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) have been part of the Prince Edward Island (PEI) healthcare system for more than 60 years. Initially, LPNs were called Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNA). In 2002, the name changed to Licensed Practical Nurse to reflect comprehensive changes to practical nursing education.
