So I've been ordering food from Kismet for quite some time and generally I'm pretty happy with the food. With that being said, I'm probably not the best judge. What I can say is that they need to work on their operations and customer service!! I ordered some food the other day and was told it would be ready in 15 min. I came after 20 min and was told it was going to take another 15 min! Normally I would have waited anyway but since this wasn't the first time this happened and my wife/kids were in the car screaming (the kids mostly), we left and didn't come back for the order. A few months later we decided to give them another try and apparently the owner had written down our phone number and proceeded to yell at my wife for 5 minutes explaining why he was refusing to accept our order. Ouch! I went into the store and tried to sort out situation but he refused to budge. No soup for you!
Kismet is my go-to place for Indian/Bangladeshi food in Waterloo. I usually get take out because the space is pretty small, and I've never had a problem with the people at the cash. My partner is not a fan of cilantro and they've never given as a problem when we ask for items without. Their naan is the best I've had in Waterloo (Grain of Salt in Cambridge is the only place I've tried with better naan). Much better than the sort of pancakey stuff I've seen at other places *cough*Curry in a Hurry. I really like their aloo gobi, which is potato and caulifower with curry spices. Their chicken korma is also delicious.
My family and I have been eating at Mohammed's restaurant since the Kooinoor on King St. (!!! long time ago). It's without doubt the most consistent food of all the places we eat at. There's no classifying this curry in a North/South India sense because the owners are proudly Bangladeshi. It has eastern influences and some curry house standards. Great stuff like sambas which you don't see anywhere else. To the comments about the grumpy owner, I've only found Abu to be amazingly nice. I'm not saying he's going to be the same way with everyone but he's a really decent guy and if you're decent to him, he'll be more than decent to you. Like I say in my title, there needs to be more restaurants like Kismet in Waterloo.
It's a shame so many have had bad experiences at Kismet, because I really can say that I never have. I love the naan. It's made in the store (the owner's son has gone on at length about how much the price of flour has risen recently) and it's always warm and tasty. I always get the chicken and vegetable with naan. Solid dish and hits the spot. The last time I was there, the chicken was a bit tough, but overall I'm usually satisfied with my experiences there.
Best Indian food I've ever had in my LIFE. Sometimes I eat there twice a day. It's that good! Fresh, clean, cheap, and (sometimes) quick; it doesn't get any better than that. If you need a place to eat within the university plaza (or even within the entirety of Ontario), Kismet will consistently please your taste buds! A++++ P.S. I once drove from Brampton to have Kismet. True story.
My friends and I walked by and smelled wonderful fumes of promising curry. We sat ourselves down since no one came to greet us but were shortly welcomed with drinks. The curry is pretty good considering all the terrible reviews I read on local indian food. The naan was so fresh and comforting! Even my friend who does not like curry found it very hard not to resist a bite (or half of my curry since it was so good) The waiters were very friendly and striked up several conversations with us. We will definately go back, especially when it gets chillier!
We have dined at Kismet Restaurant since it opened. The food is always exemplary and the owners are nice. We have always received good customer service.
FANTASTIC food, across the board our party was happy with the food and service of Abu and the rest at Kismet. A definite return is coming soon.
My husband and I adore Kismet. I moved to KW from New York, and I can say that Kismet offers the best Indian food I have ever had, personally. The Naan is divine. I always have leftovers, and have never had any issues with quality--it's always excellent. They are always kind enough to make my butter chicken spicy, just like I like it. We get take-out because the space is small and with the amount of orders they have the service limited. Kismet is a shining star in Waterloo for take-out, highly recommended.
With the exception of the angry gentlemen behind the counter Kismet is amazing! The food is reasonable priced and tastes amazing (Especially their Nan and Onion Baji), the other staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is always pleasant and sociable. They make you pay for a takeout container now which I'm not a fan of but the food itself more than makes up for the few shortcomings Kismet might have. Definitely worth your time if you like Indian food.
First off, the food, for indian food, isn't bad. It's actually pretty good. I'd go back just for the food (and I do), plus they have the online delivery thing with emealstogo so it makes it easier to order. They've got a pretty wide selection and depending on what you choose you can get a decent meal for under $10. Now, the guy behind the counter is not the nicest. He seems to favour certain customers over others, and the general feeling you get is he just wants you out of there, which is why i prefer the online ordering rather than the face to face thing. The food takes a while to get to you, but its part of the fresh thing so I don't mind it so much. Usually comes in warm sometimes I get it at room temperature which is alright. In general, I recommend this place to people if they're looking for good quality indian food for the price its at. Don't pay attention to the spice ratings, everything there's mild but flavourful.
I had went to the same owners restaurant when they were on Phillip and Albert. The food and atmosphere were much better. It seems as they are now catering more to University students, they don't really care about their food as much. The rice was very dry and tasteless. The chicken was not bad. The onion bhaji was more batter than anything, burnt and dry. I was really disappointed. The service however was very quick and the they were very nice
this place has the most divine curries, the best nan i've ever had the pleasure of tasting and the creamiest coolest raita to compliment it all. the 'cafeteria' style of the restaurant can be deceiving but give kismet a chance. pretty much anything on the menu is phenomenal. do not listen to the negative reviews- they are clearly from competitors in the area trying to give kismet bad press so that we'll go to other places. this is HANDS DOWN the best indian food in the kw area. i always get enough for leftovers so i can eat it a 2nd time in one day! enjoy!!!
I've never had bad service in all the many times I've been there. The people who work there are always polite. The food is excellent.
The naan here is delicious. The Chicken Korma is delicious as well if not a little too creamy. It's got a really nice coconut flavour to it. Service is fairly fast and it's nice and reliable. Visit fairly frequently.
We have been to Kismet a few times now and have always enjoyed the food. It is a bit pricy but worth it until this last time. I think the counter person was the son of the owner and he was rude to the point where if I had not known the food was good, I would have left. I hope daddy does something before they lose all their business!
We found the food to be very good. The men at the order desk need to learn how to be consumer friendly.Because of their arrogance we will never go back.Restaurants that treat their customers bad don't deserve to be in business!
chicken veg curry = excellent nan = superb rice = good side dish overall result: full & satisfied ;p
The dish we took was not that good. We couldn't even finish it. Their service was very very poor. The person at the front was having an argument with one of the customer I have no idea whose fault it was but the front-person was rude and it ruined our evening.
The food is overpriced and tasteless. Their service is very slow. If you want Indian food then look for alternatives. Worst one I had after a long time.
