We went for breakfast on a whim after a popular breakfast place around the corner had a lineup out the door. They have a great patio, amazing service and the food is very good. Love the latkes and the apple sauce must be homemade. I definitely will go back to try a sandwich!
Christmas Day, what to do? Skated at Nathan Phillips Square and then walked over to Caplansky's on College. So happy they were open! Thoroughly enjoyed the beef brisket sandwich on an onion bun: juicy and delicious! So big I had to eat it with a knife and fork! Started with cabbage borscht which was just right! Topped off my meal with a Steamwhistle beer (I think). My friends and I like to make our pilgrimage down to College Street every few months just for Caplansky's amazing food.
Not sure if any of the other reviewers has ever had smoked meat in Montreal but this was as it was boiled not steamed. We ordered medium and it was dry and unflavourful. Overall if you are wanting the Montreal experience dont bother.
I really loved the food. The SMOKED MEAT is very good but the best thing on the menu is the home-made smoked meat gravy its SOOOOOOOOOOO good I will be back
Finally checked this place out after reading all the press, in one word....overrated. First off its situated in a dump, the montreal smoked was drier then dry, the poutine was good. another problem with this place is if you order a sandwich and a beer you get 2 checks, 1 for the beer and 1 for the meal. all in all I was very dissapointed, perhaps if they ever get their own restaurant that has a kitchen bigger then a breadbox will I return
I’ve heard a lot of great things about Caplansky's, and I finally got the chance to try it last week. Let me tell you, the sandwich was AMAZING!!! Zane keeps it very simple and very delicious. He was gracious enough to give my wife and I a quick run through on how the beef is prepared. I believe it’s a 10 hour process. I was very excited to taste a sandwich that took 10 hours of preparation, and I was definitely not disappointed. We ordered the combo. The service was fast and friendly. The fries were great! How do you make greaseless fries… and make them taste so good? And the coleslaw was very different from what we were used to… in a good way of course. Basically, we were already planning our next visit back, even before we left. I will definitely send my friends and family to Caplansky’s. And to anyone reading this… don’t think about it… just go!

The soup is made in-house, which means it is packed with authentic flavours and all those nostalgic feelings! Caplansky’s also offers cabbage borscht and split pea with smoked meat.
