Disappointed

We wanted somewhere special for our anniversary so we, chose Fosters. After bringing us a drink the waitress ignored us for 50 minutes until we called her over. Our baked potato was under microwaved. When I complained my steak was full of gristle she said - yeah its charred on the outside but how is it inside. We won't be back and thats too bad because we have had good meals there before.

Good place! We were staying at the Fosters Inn...

Good place! We were staying at the Fosters Inn for the Stratford Festival and decided to have our first dinner right here. Steaks were good - I wouldnt say excellent but good. The lamb carpaccio was good when i got to it (it was covered in about 4 inches of shaved cucmber slices) My wife ordered the shrimp appetizer which was very good. We went just after the evening show had started so the place was nearly empty snd the service was excellent. It was a nice warm night so we took our after dinner liquers and espresso's out to the patio where the waitress treated us like we owned the place. Pre-dinner drinks, appetizers, main course, bottle of wine, dessert, liquers and espresso was $220

Food and Drinks always consistant

It has turned out to be one of my favourites in town for a couple of drinks and chat with friends. The restaurant has also become a favourite. The decor is casual elegant. Lots of use of wood and soft paint colours. The bar is small and along part of the one wall of the bar area. The door to the street is the main entrance for the establishment. Several tables with stools are at the rear and a couple of low tables as well. Drinks and service are very good. The bar menu is well done and reasonable. The Gorgenzola (sp) Fries are a great as is the burger. The decor of the restaurant is much the same with an open kitchen on one wall. Lighting is low and comfortable. That something that can kill a place. If the lighting is poor..too bright..too dim...it can ruin the atmosphere before the food even arrives. Fosters got it right on the money. This is one of the only places you can actually order a steak in town and get a reliable cut of meat properly cooked. But don't misunderstand, this is not a steak house. The menu dosn't reach beyond the kitchens ability so the food across the menu is realiably good and very well presented. The best item on the menu in our opinion and what we usually order is the daliy pasta special. Chef creates something new each day and the portion is ample and excellently prepared. In the dozen or more trips there we have yet to be disappointed. Service is top notch. No issues of any kind.

Over Priced and Poor Disappointed

4 out of 5 in our group ordered the Squash soup, one bowl you could split apart in the middle it was so thick, the other 3 bowls were watery, so stir the pot before you serve the soup, how trained are these Chefs. The duck I ordered was awful, 5 slices of duck which was mostly skin and fat, with 3 slices of potato on the side, it was a real disappointment at $23.95. Would not go back.

Living in Toronto, I shivered at the suggestion...

Living in Toronto, I shivered at the suggestion from friends for New Years dinner in Stratford. "It's the winter!" I protested. "Anything good is closed!" I couldn't have been further from the truth. Arriving at nine o'clock to a handsomely lit bar and smiles from all around, we endulged in a pre-dinner cocktail in a cozy leather sofa and chairs. Perfect beginning! Into the dining room. We sat in a wrap around window table with sultry lighting and quiet street views to ourselves. Dinner starts with an earthy mushroom terrine with lavash white truffle oil, the perfect size for our ensuing three courses. Next, melting in the mouth crab cakes with smoky spicy chipotle mayonaise, cut with tart green apple. Delicious! A succulent lobster tail arrives atop a perfectly cooked beef tenderlion drizzled with red wine jus and accompanied with a decadent potato gratin. Desserts don't disappoint, but the steak shines! Friendly, knowledgable, curtious service reminds me I am out of the city! Thanks Fosters for a great begining to the new year and I'll definately see you in 2007! Ariel Dax

Our party arrived to an almost full restaurant...

Our party arrived to an almost full restaurant. We were lucky and had made a reservation a few months prior. We were given a table in the window. We asked why we received this table, and the host replied that the most popular tables are assigned first. We were asked if the host could take our jackets, and were then welcomed by our server, who explained the specials. I was told about the steak, so I asked what cut of steak I should order and the server replied "well, that depends on how you like your steak cooked?". I chose the tenderloin and frites with bearnaise sauce. It was cooked to perfection. The server came to the table after our main course arrived and asked us to check if the steak was properly cooked and then presented a tray of condiments for the steak! Wow! We had great wine, great service and felt very welcome. The patio was hoppin' busy and as a result the atmosphere was just what we wanted for a night out in Stratford. Highly recommended! Congratulations!

Definitely the best breakfast in Stratford! It's not greasy, reasonably priced, the eggs were cooked properly and the homefries were real! We had the heuvos rancheros, an interesting and very delicious breakfast...I am actually craving it as I type! A tortilla with homefries, cheese topped with fried eggs and sour cream and salsa! Apparently, Foster's signature breakfast! My sister had the french toast. It came topped with caramelized apples and cheddar cheese between the generous portion of french toast (bread was also homemade). A great combination! We will go back this weekend and make it our breakfast spot! Thanks Foster's for a great breakfast(and made to order-we were told the hollandaise sauce for the eggs benedict is even made to order!).

I always try to make Foster's my number one...

I always try to make Foster's my number one destination for a meal out when I visit Stratford. Normally, I'm a dinner guest who orders the Calamari (always fresh with amazing aioli) to start, 12oz striploin (cooked just how I like it - a true medium rare) with frites (nice and crisp but not overdone). This day I went for lunch and I had the Calamari (of course) and a caesar salad (excellent at a great price). The wine selection is great and the service has always been knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Definitely, a favourite restaurant of mine!

We were apprehensive about going out for steaks, but ended up having a wonderful meal! Our server (Carrie) was very nice and the food was outstanding! My Wife had the chicken which was good but not great, I on the other hand had a ribeye and absolutely savored every bite! Excellent meal and the wine selection was very nice as well. We had an Australian Shiraz.

The very young, very inexperienced waitress was in training on a relatively busy night. The tart was barely warm and mussy. The steak was properly cooked but quite bland for the price tag and the frites were stone cold. To use the washroom one had to take an elevator up to the Inn section.
