An excellent spot to sample Hong Kong-style dishes, Big Mouth Kee seems a frill-free, apparently unremarkable Richmond Hill diner - until you get a taste of its food. Here's where the real-stuff Chinese awaits your attention. Those in the know urge guests to order from the Chinese, and not the English, menu. Find braised pork of the highest order, and Vancouver crab, plucked live from the restaurant's tank before getting the treatment that delivers its dressed-up freshness to the plate. The Peking duck, featuring a whole bird that's carved tableside, is old-school Chinese at its best. And a rich dim sum menu positively sings with authenticity. The décor is retro and unadorned at Big Mouth Kee, but it's the cuisine that counts here.more...See more text
In our efforts to have some scrumptious food at 12am in the morning, we drove all the way up to Highway 7 and sat ourselves down in Big Mouth Kee. It was quiet, most likely due to the hour of the night.
We ordered Beef Tenderloin on Hot Plate and Eel and Pork in a Hot Pot. To our dismay, the beef was not cut against the grain which caused the texture to be tough and the eel was not fresh.
We ordered a bowl of rice to complement the dishes. $1.80 for a bowl of rice while some other chinese places offer bowls and bowls of rice for FREEEEEEEEEEE!
The waiters also seemed quite hostile and disinterested.
I need to find a good chinese restaurant for late dinners in the weekends. Suggestions anyone?
Big Mouth Kee is awesome! They serve up traditional Cantonese foods that come in large portions that can be shared among many people. Everything is made soooo very delicious, especially the whole lobster (they are HUGE and meaty - sooo good!!) picked fresh and sautéed in ginger and green onion (way better than the ones in Chinatown!). My family was quite impressed with both the authenticity and quality of the food, as well as the fact that it was pretty cheap. I will most certainly be back here during the winter time as they are very famous for their Winter Melon Soup (served only during the winter season) which is actually cooked and handed out in the melon itself so it's quite interesting! It's both tasty and healthy for you and will warm you up during the coldest time of year! Big Mouth Kee is consistently the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to - if only it wasn't such a far and long drive......
