Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place.
This was not our first visit,,,but it will be our last. It was unbelievably bad actually. The beer was warm, the food was not edible, which we did tell the server,,she could have cared less, which she failed to remove from the table. We had to ask for the bill several times, and sit and look at the food we were unable to eat. One thing you cannot take away from the place is the atmosphere, to sit right beside the canal. I would not return for free food...............
Took friends from out of town and was embarrassed by our choice...ordered Bloody Marys and no one could taste the vodka...confirmed with the young waitress that they were not virgin Bloody Marys so asked for a jigger of vodka to top up our drinks...tasted the 'pure' vodka in the jigger and it was like water...and they still charged us for alcohol! Disppointing, tired food - too much cream and not enough real taste...never again.
I've been here a few times now, and the sad fact is that other than the location, this place has nothing much to offer. Its a pity too, because the location truly is spectacular - the only way you could eat closer to the water is if you were on a boat. Unfortunately, thats about all the place has to offer, and as such, it doesn't have much more going for it than, say, a bench that also happens to be on the banks of the canal. My penne jambalaya was tiny (I could literally count the number of penne noodles) and unbelievably soupy. Like, when I was done fishing the meat and noodles out, there was at least an inch and a half of sauce left in the bowl. And not rich, thick sauce, but watery. Too watery, in fact, to actually stick to the noodles or meat that I fished out. My wife had a wild mushroom ravioli with "cream sauce" which, according to here, was probably cream and not much else, as it was completely bland. The service was what I would call "par". Nothing special, but nothing terrible either. So in that, I guess it fits with the rest of the experience - mediocre. In other words..... meh.
After bring seated, it was 15 minutes before anyone came to take a drink order. My husband ordered a draft beer, which was flat. I ordered a margarita on the rocks, and when I tasted it, I sent it back. It tasted horrible; I mentioned to the server that it tasted milky. She went and asked the bartender, who apparenly put cream in it. Not sure what recipe book she read, but last time I checked, there was no cream in a margarita. Food came out on old, ugly white diner plates, and it was no good - they used "fake" (ie. from a can) parmesan cheese on the bruschetta, and the antipasto consisted of a few slices of rolled up salami, vinegar soaked julienne carrots, and an unripe tomato with bottled pesto on top. Bad service, bad drinks, bad food, good location. Location is all that keeps this place open.
Food tasted good enough, servers were fast and friendly BUT I'd like to see more choices on the menu.
The ambiance is cool!Very unprofessional service!Servers were arguing infront of us.There was no grace & assurance of service. We have to flag them 3x for cold water. We witnessed the owner's arrogant attitude in answering the phone! Food: Tasteless, dry & were served cold.
this place is amaizing, the service was top notch it wasnt to fast nor to slow, everything came at the right time, from the drinks to the salada to the main course to the desert, it was perfect, we did not get the best seat in the house and it was really busy but, dispite that, i still felt like i was thier number one customer and had a great time, would love to go back
We decided to try the Ritz after seeing its ideal location on the canal. It really does have the perfect location, and while the servers were very friendly, the food was not what I expected at all. To begin I ordered a pasta dish and they said they didn't have it - so the server brought back the menu and I ordered another pasta dish - only to have the server come back again and tell me I would have to choose something else. I finally decided on a thin crust pizza same as my date. Unfortunately we were still eating our mussels when the server brought us our mains. Bad timing, plus my date asked for no olives, and the pizza came with olives, so the friendly server brought it back and then returned with the olives picked off two seconds later. To add insult to injury the bottom of my pizza was burnt. The have an ideal location - and as the other reviewer has mentioned - their mussels are some of the best I've ever had- and the prices are indeed reasonable. However the mediocre food really ruins this place. I might try it again, as it could have been a bad night- and the place was packed so there must be some draw. The Ritz Canal really has a lot of potential, but their menu needs an overhaul.
On our recent visit to the Canal Ritz we tried the pasta special and the veal dish. Both were tasty and perfectly cooked. I definately recommend this restaurant.
this place gets better every time i visit. keep it up
The thin crust pizza was a complete taste treat. The asiago cheese combined with the vegetables and cheddar made this an incredibly delicious lunch. The service was good and the view was delightful as the Tulip Festival flotilla floated by. I go to this restaurant once a year (I'm from out of town) as part of a cycling tour of Ottawa and I'm never disappointed.
Superb place to eat, extremely attentive and friendly service, very professional attractive waitresses. Were seated by the canal which was very pleasant and were attended to very well. The food itself was extremely delicious, the server recommended a perfect wine to go with it and overall it was a very welcoming, friendly, yet ritzy place.
The food here is awesome! It has an elegant atmosphere (i.e. table cloths) and the price is very reasonable. I always get the mussles, which are served in a cream sauce. Can't go wrong with the Ritz.
I have been to all Ritz locations. This one is the best and Kalil is very pleasant and will look after anything special you may want. Location is best in the City and ther is lots of free parking. I am a regular.
Location is great, right off the canal, with a great view and nice ambiance. Service was pretty good, as they were constantly make sure everything was okay. Food is decent, but nothing spectacular. Pasta was a bit dry, and their salad wasn't the freshest I've ever eaten.
Great location. Great place to enjoy a glass of wine.
Very disappointing! was seated and no service person came and took a drink order until after I had to flag one over. That was 20 minutes after we were seated. The place was not at all busy. We put in our food order in that time and waited quite awhile. CAesar salad was disgusting the dressing was awful. Chicken sandwhich was ok. Amusing watched the service people fight over tables. Very unprofessional. As I thought service person was quick to bring the check and retrieve payment. Will never eat here again. Service was pathetic

It will feel like you’re floating on water while dining on the dock of Ottawa’s Canal Ritz. Take in the beautiful sights and inviting sounds as you enjoy some modern Italian cuisine, with the best views of the Rideau Canal in the city. The Canal Ritz is a favourite for tourists and locals alike.
