We just finished our first, and sadly last meal from Funky Thai 2 Go. What a disappointment. We were so happy to see that they delivered to our area. Normally we go to another Thai restaurant in Burlington that we love - but sometimes, you just don't feel like going out to pick up the food. So - we placed an order for some of our regular typical favourites. Everything was either very bland or just seemed to incorporate some unusual flavours that just did not lead to an enjoyable meal. A couple examples. I like the nice flavour of coconut from Thai curries. And I was very pleased to see they had coconut rice too - just to add more of that flavour I'm looking for. We ordered a golden curry chicken and a green curry beef. Hardly any coconut taste in either. Same with the rice. The green curry beef had a slightly odd taste - almost of cream of mushroom soup. The peanut sauce for the satays was particularly bad. I could not place the offending flavour until I looked at the sauce itself in more detail. It's loaded with small chopped sauteed onions. Greasy onions. Not at all a flavour I expected in the peanut sauce. The best part of the meal by far was the spring rolls. The mango salad was also not bad (and quite ample for the price). Sadly these two items were not enough to save a very underwhelming meal.
This place is very convenient and great for takeout. The food isn't quite to my tastes. It's okay, but not spectacular. Their menu also seems like it's missing some Thai staples and when they are busy, not everything is available.
the service for new customers is superb! i was getting take-out for one and the person on the telephone added my information, called me by my first name and asked if i had any food allergies or diet restrictions. i told her i am vegetarian and she offered to have my cashew tofu dish altered to omit the fish sauce and oyster sauce! very thorough and careful service! the food was great and i would definitely take out from them again.
Randomly sauntered in here and had a chili tofu dish. I was good, but not great, but I will likely try a few more things on the menu before making this a go-to place for take-out thai.
I use to be a regular at the Funky Thai on Dundas, however, have noticed that the quality was slipping so I decided to give this location a try. Man - what a difference - I had the mango pad-thai, lemon grass chicken, cold rolls and it was great. Service was fast. Probably won't be going back to the Dundas location - although, too bad this place doesn't dining room.
