Eastside Auto Service is the setting of many of Glenn Colling’s fondest childhood memories. He recalls hanging out there with his dad when he was just a kid, doing odd jobs and getting ribbed, in a good-natured way, by the employees. “One time I was washing windows and stepped down from the ladder right into a bucket of soapy water," Glenn remembers. "The guys busted me about that one for years.” He also loves to tell the story about how the mechanics would take him out to “test drive” cars that had nothing wrong with them, asking him to jump out multiple times to check on imaginary flat tires and other non-existent problems.
It might seem remarkable that Glenn kept coming back to Eastside after all that, but he did. Like his dad, Merv, he always had a passion for the place. In 1992, as a recent grad with a degree in Automotive Management & Marketing, Glenn returned to Oakville to work alongside Merv and his business partner, Jack Moed. They made sure that Glenn first rounded out his education by also earning a mechanic’s license in trade school. Although both had enjoyed being in business together since 1969, they welcomed the fresh infusion of energy in the form of young Glenn.
