Turkey dinner and seafood platter! But you didn’t give us any silverware. Have you ever tried eating mashed potatoes with your fingers! We went and sat by the river but to our surprise no cutlery! Lol
Love it
Bettys is a great place out of the way! It's very clean and ALWAYS BUSY! The waitresses are very friendly and attentive. Also, the coleslow is out of this world! & one last thing. . the best fish and chips around!
I was surprised that I had never heard of Betty's Restaurant until recently when a friend told be about it, so my friends and I decided to give it a try for breakfast about a week ago. They were just opening when we arrived, but we were served promptly. Three of us ordered the omelette, and the other person ordered the bacon and sausage. We all thought the breakfast was great, and the prices very reasonable, especially when it included bottomless coffee. I have heard that the fish and chips is extremely good there, so we are looking forward to going back to try that, even though we live in Hamilton. Our whole experience was a pleasant one.
The food was acceptable but the service was poor. We asked for some condiments to go with the meals and the waitress said she would be right back with them. We waited for her to return but she never did. As a result our meal was less than perfect. If the restaurant had been busy I could understand it, but it wasn't. Unfortunate experience.
I used to like this restaurant. First problem is that they have changed the menus such that the meals are not balanced at all. Try ordering Chicken Parmesan. They offer noodles, and garlic bread, no salad is offered as a side unless you want to order it separately and pay a lot more for it. Others are the same. I mentioned it to a woman at the front desk who reacted defensively to the constructive criticism. She would do well to learn how to improve. Regarding the senior's special. It is only a deal if you are going to have pie. If you don't normally order pie with dinner then order the single portion of the regular meal and it will be cheaper. Unfortunately I think this concept of "special" is interesting marketing to make the fish dinner appear less costly.
We started with a creamy mushroom soup which I really enjoyed, then we got our main dishes. Steak on a bun was their Thursday daily special and I think it was pretty great considering its special price which was $7.99. Our server was quite friendly and pretty attentive. The only thing I wasn't really happy about is their Seafood Platter. Since everything on that platter was deep-fried I was having a hard time to finish them because it was too oily and heavy, but I guess people who love fish & chips would enjoy this dish. It was just not my case.
BEST FISH IN ONTARIO! Great food but service is a little bit of a dice roll.. a few ppl there seem to get disturbed by those not cased in a milky blanche exterior! Not surprising given the context of surroundings...
We had our wedding there a couple weeks ago and had the most delicious food ever. With our party size we were really afraid we werent going to have good service or anything. Coming from a family with many chefs we were scared that we were going to have some challenge but they proved us wrong. People raved about their food and thought the service was great. They even stayed open til 12 for us and served a fruit bar after for the guests. The price was great and we had no complaints since our wedding was five hours away from our homes. I would recommend Bettys to everyone who goes to Niagara falls region and will be back on our anniversary. They are awesome.
We had heard numerous rave reviews about Betty's food and service since we moved to Niagara. Finally found ourselves nearby and stopped in for breakfast. It was not very busy, only about 1/3 of the tables had customers. Menus and coffee came promptly, and the waitress took our order fairly quickly. Then we waited...and waited...and waited...over 20 minutes before our omelets arrived. The food was lukewarm, they used canned mushrooms for the omelet (disgusting) and they forgot the cheese altogether. The homefries were good, though. Nobody came to see if we wanted more coffee or how our meal was. Then we waited...and waited...and waited...over 15 minutes for the waitress to bring the check. We finally gave up and went to the cashier, the man asked us if we were still waiting for our bill and we said yes. He walked back and asked the waitress for the bill. The one he came back with was 30% more than it should have been because she gave him the wrong bill. Got the right bill finally and left in disgust. The man at cash never even apologized for the delay in getting our bill. Maybe they spent all their money on the new decor and had none left for fresh mushrooms or staff training.
I LOVE THERE PIES SO MUCH there lemon merrang is amazing
Very unwelcoming, terrible service, did not value customer at all. This was booked in advance so they should have been prepared for our party size.
DH and I usually go to Betty's every couple of months. We hadn't been since February /08. At that time we felt the quality of the food was slipping however we decided to give it another to. I don't know if they are pinching pennies or have hired a new cook. The fish was tasteless and very heavy. Neither of us were able to finish it. Even the chips were tastless and undercooked. I'm afraid we will not longer be attending Betty's.
I am a Born and Raised Niagara Region resident currently living in chippawa just around the corner from Betty's. Now I have been going to Betty's since I was a little kid, (now 19) and I am now enrolled in the Niagara Culinary Institute. I would sugest Betty's to anyone who wants a home cooked meal at and affordable price. They do have a couple issues, for example, Lately their food has been a little touch and go, One day we go for dinner and it is great. They live up to their "Famous" standards. However I believe that in an interest to deal with rising food costs in order to keep their cost low for their customers their food quality may be suffering a bit. And I'm sorry but their pies are known to be famous. Well i can tell you in my professional opinion that the fillings are pre made which leaves theses pies rather flavourless. Sorry Guys, but you need a new baker. Anyways, Give Betty's a chance, for the most part they are pretty good.
We used to go to Betty's 2-3X per month, but feel that the food quality in the past 12-18 months has deteriorated. French fries are often dark brown and unappetizing looking (new cooking oil please). Fish usually quite good no matter how it is cooked. Substitutions are discouraged unfortunately. Soups usually good though sometimes watery and tasteless. The famous 'homemade' pies are anything but - cream pies are the norm with Jello type custard and pretend whipped cream. All artificial flavours and simply prepared from a box. Disappointing. The restaurant has been redone inside and looks very nice. Too bad the decor is the best part.
I won't write too much praise because you'll find plenty of it below. This is a great restaurant that locals of Niagara Falls are very fond of. One quick warning though, this is a restaurant that has fallen into a category of catering to senior citizen parties in the last few years. If you are ordering fish & chips, steak, etc. you are safe. But, you won't be taking your team here after the tournament, if you know what I mean. For example, this restaurant has the worst chicken wings in the entire city. Small and wizened, they look more like sparrow wings and taste as though you baked them at home in the oven. The soft drinks are served in pitifully small glasses and you will pay for every refill. If you're out for a homecooking dining experience, you'll have a fine time. Just don't expect any of the enjoyable excess you find in establishments catering to a younger crowd.
The service was fantastic! It was reasonably priced for the significant amount of food on the plate.
Fish is the best, portions is so big I could only eat one piece. French fries of course were great. Fresh buns were warm and yummy. PIE- need I say more. The section was very busy and the waitress(should have been 2 waitresses) could not help being slowed down by a very demanding table beside us.
I am a native of the Niagara Region and have eaten at this restaurant many many times, for anniversary's, birthdays, celebrations, retirements, and just for a good night out. The atmosphere of Betty's is one of the most welcoming environments of any restaurant I have been in. The service has always been fabulous, even when its been busy... Which it normally is. The odd occassion our orders have taken a little longer than normal, but the food has always arrived hot and tasted delicious. I have recommended Betty's to many people over the years and I have heard nothing but the same type of responce over and over again. "Thanks for recommending Betty's we had a great time and the food was excellent."
It was our first time at the Betty's restaurant. We had very good service from our waitress Anne. My family are from Montreal and my sister is from Boston. All of us enjoyed their Sunday Brunch. What make it special is when Anne brought over a plate of their fry fish. That was the best fry fish that I ever eaten. Every thing in the Sunday Brunch is excellent. The dessert is A+++ from all seven of us. We will come back to Niagara again and Betty's Restaurant is on top of our list.
