only ordered take out. $9.95 each plus tax for 3 separate entrees and not worth the money. take out container was filled 1/2-3/4 of the way for all three dishes. stingy on meat for all three dishes. meat was full of fat, skin, or batter. made me want to vomit. would never go back.
I can vouch for its authenticity since I'm Malaysian but it is overpriced for the amount of food they serve. They're skimpy on the meat and some dishes are way too greasy like the fried rice and char kway teow. Ordered the beef rendang once and it was cold and there were only 4 little sad pieces of beef.
WOW! What fantastic Singapore / Malyasian food, so authentic, delicious..... My family and I love this restaurant. My kids never fail to ask for their favourite Chicken rice that tastes just like when we visit Gong Gong (grandpa) in Singapore. When I don't feel like cooking . my husband and I just go straight to Lion City...it's the restaurant we call out second kitchen. My favourites are Prawn Noodles, Chicken Rice, Tau Hu Goreng, Lontong..and their newest dish is my newest favourite; Crabmeat noodle. TRY IT! You will not regret it! See you there!
I am a regular patron of this restaurant and can vouch for the quality of the food. Being a fellow Singaporean, I am a foodie and know my food! The star dishes there are the Hainanese Chicken Rice, the different curry dishes and the various 'hawker' type fried noodle dishes. Sure there are going to be detractors that can complain about this and that but the fact is this restaurant has been around one of the oldest in the GTA and is the only ex-Singaporean run owner operator who is a genuine chef who has written cookbooks. The fact the it is going to celebrate it's 16th anniversary this year (2011) should speak volumes about the loyal customers they cater to. Try it, you will not regret it.

Had a visit for my wife's birthday on Sunday. first impression we had was a small family restaurant. that's fine! we sat down and starting going through the menu. we waited and waited and waited.....we called them over but had to wait a few more minutes. anyway, we ordered hoping to eat soon as we had waited days for this meal! Long story short, the quality of the food was very low, Service very slow and we had to pay for the food we did not eat. We asked if the crab was over-cooked or it was not fresh? He replied "I still have to charge you for it, we cook these all the time" Don't bother eating there even if money is not an issue or live close by.
I have been occasionally to this restaurant and I find that its food quality is deteriating. $7 for a bowl of noodle with little meat that is unfresh. It is nothing near the quality of Pho noodle that is more generously portioned and with more value for money.
As a former Malaysian resident, this is about as close as you're going to get. I haven't had any Thai food on the menu, but why are you ordering Thai food here? I wish them great success here!
Food is way too overpriced for the amount of ingredients included in the dishes. For example, the hei mee dish(which is translated to be shrimp noodles), only included 3 pieces of shrimp!!! A shrimp dish, should include MORE than 5 pieces! I would actually get more out of my money from ordering a shrimp dish from red lobster. Both of the other dishes also had very little ingredients. Service was average.
the food at lion city restaurant is VERY delicious!! the waitress's very nice! the food is very fresh. satay chicken is my favourite food there. YUM YUM in my TUM TUM!!!!!!!
RATING REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT DISHES YOU ORDER. THEY SPECIALIZE IN SING/MALAY DISHES.I WOULDN'T ORDER ANYTHING ELSE. I AGREE WITH OTHER REVIEWERS-IT'S NOT S'PORE BUT AS GOOD AS IT'LL GET OVER HERE. TRY KWAY TEOW AND CARROT CAKE DONE SPICY, CURRY PUFF IF FRESH IS EXCELLENT
Went to the restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. Portions for thai food are generous compared to other fusion type establishments. When I went there over the weekend the place was full and not empty unlike what the other reviewer stated. Mango Salad is to die for
I have been to this restaurant several times and have found the food to be overpriced for its portion size. The lack of customers in the restaurant is sure indication of the poor level of service and quality of food. Truthfully I have had better Malaysian and Singaporean food. The reviews are over stated.
Great authentic Singaporean food cooked by fellow ex-Singaporeans! This is my 2nd kitchen! Luckily I don't live too far away!! Being Singaporean, I live to eat not eat to live! LOL!
A typical family restaurant - casual, nothing fanciful and reasonable price. The Skate on banana leaf was outstanding, best in Ontario. The Curry chicken is typical Singapore style with strong fragrance of coconut and spices. The kang kong was great - must specify with Cuttle fish and "Sambal". Teoschew duck could be better - not tender enough.
Great Singapore restaurant to visit whenever I miss a taste of home. My favourite is the fried carrot cake which they make with dark sauce (at request). We have tried other dishes which have not disappointed. We sometimes order chwee kway for take out which is served with a generous topping of salted vegetables and a side of chilli belacan. The past few visits there has been a tray of curry puffs and kueh lapis (a rich layer cake). Family run, casual, clean and very reasonably priced, this is a good place for good Singapore eats.
The food were authentic Singapore style servings. The appetizers - Pop Piah is healthy lots of vegetables - turnips and very similar to those served at home. I have tasted many Hainanese Chicken rice in Ontario, Lion City's are the best - rice very grainy, good fragrance and the chicken is not over cooked and delicious. MeeRebus - my favourite - yellow noodles with heavy potato and beef gravy is out of this World.
Excellent chicken rice with soup. Very consistent on food quality on our many visits ... very authentic Singaporean cuisine. Family run restaurant that provides friendly service.
