Shrimp chips not crispy. Not expensive, waiters and waitresses have courtesy, enough air condition, food not bad.
I took a friend of mine to celebrate her birthday. We ordered several dishes from dim sum and ordered fried rice. We couldn't eat everything so we took some left over to home. I was eating left over the next day and found a DEAD FLY in the fried rice. I couldn't believe it. I took it back to the restaurant to complain and asked to speak the manager. When I asked him the explanation as to how the dirty fly get in the food, he immediately told me "it is the summer, doors are open. We have no control fries coming in and out" and I told him" I understand the part, but you must control fries getting in the food" His answer was" NO, we can not control, we cook so many dishes, it could happen" I almost said, if you can't not control it, you might close the business as well. Anyway, what I learned about this restaurant was they have VERY LOW STANDARD FOR HYGIENE STANDPOINT. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SICK, I SUGGEST NOT TO GO.
the food is pretty good here, because you pay more than a typical Chinese restaurant. but they need to improve on there staff such as the people who give food of the car. they only speak Mandarin making it hard for people to know what it is. dish washer there might not be good. because there is always bits of garbage on plates etc.. the washroom could be cleaned more often. the cashier and one of the manager are never happy they always frown.
We have been there many times, for dinner and dim sum. We wnet there again last Sat. for dimsum, arrived at 10:30AM before the lunch time rush. I asked (In English) for a table for three and the hostess pointed to table near the waiting area. I asked if they have another table further at the back and was told no table available at the back. At the same time, another party of four arrived, and they asked (In Chinese), for a table at the back. The hostess asked if they have reservation, and they replied "No". But somehow they were provided a small round table that would sit from one to four, or even five, at the back. I aksed (In Chinese this time)the hostess why they were provided a table at the back, but I was told just a minute earlier that no table was available. I told her I am taking my business and spend my money somewhere else from now on.
Went here again and it was delicious once again. Perfect place to eat and see a movie, have christmas lunch/dinner. Its extremely busy on Family Day. Duck is YUMMUH.
Dim sum is just average however would recommend it for the price. They have a good variety of dumplings although, the availability of their selection is hit and miss on any given day. The carts are too few and far between. Some of my favorites just don't show up on some days. The servers are friendly and helpful.
I joined this site so that I can warn people about the horrible service we had having dinner on Saturday night. For the record we have been here many times before and liked the food very much. Their chicken dishes are delicious. We ordered a Fathers day special which included 4 dishes. The first 3 dishes arrived after about 15 mins after we ordered one after the other about 1 min apart. We started eating and by the time we were about half way thru our meal we asked a waiter to check on the chicken dish (our reason for going to Summit Garden in the first place) He came back and told us that it was coming. Another 10 mins past and we were finished all the other dishes. We asked about the missing dish again. This time the waiter was rude and said in Cantonese "look we are not going to cheat you out of a dish and to try being patient" We let this one go. Another 10 mins past we asked another waiter about our dish. He went and asked around and found out that another table next to us who did not order it got our dish. Then as we are talking, the first waiter holding a dish of chicken comes by and said this chicken is for someone else to taunt us. This is when I told that first waiter to come back and asked sternly why he would do what he just did. He gives me a smirk and then asks what I am going to do about it and stares down my family everytime he walked by. We tell the manager what happened. He quickly does his thing in the kitchen to make things happen. But does nothing to compensate for the almost 1 hour delay for the dish or for the rude waiter. The manager was very friendly and did apologize but at that point most restaurants would have at least waved the price of that dish or at least done something about that waiter, forcing him to apologize would have salvaged our experience somewhat instead of walking out feeling ripped off and being threatened to a fight. Another table witness this waiters behaviour and actually suggested that we complain to the owner, but our evening was already ruined enough My recommendation is STAY AWAY
One of our friends recommended this place and told me that the food is excellent. And boy, was she right. We have been eating here on a regular basis. It's easy to miss this place. From the outside you might think its a small restaurant. But look at all the cars in the parking lot at night. All of those cars are locals eating at one of the best chinese restaurants in the west end. Sure, they have some of the usual suspects. And they are all terrific. But the Peking Duck was the best of all. The waiter carves it for you personally, and trims off all the fat. You get the tender sweet meat with crispy skin. I could go on and on about the dishes, but you really need to try this place for yourself. You'll be back.
Good selection but seems they hold off on serving the good stuff, by then I'm full. Will return for sure, curiosity has me hook. Always something new, or at least for now.
This was actually my second visit to Summit Garden, i wasn't too impressed, the food was alright but not award winning, also service was actually a little slower this time around, the food was alittle on the low-end side, we ordered the Fathers Day meal which contained Pineapple Chicken, Fried pork, fried rice, and hot and sour soup, we also ordered peking duck wich was mostly fat and bones, i would ike to say i ejoyed my meal, however it fell short of my expectations. the facilities are farly clean, but it looks alittle run-down, and i have a feeling that the restaurant has fallen on some hard times, but it is merely my opinion, there is alot of room for improvement for Summit Garden if they wish me to visit again.
Very good selection of dim sum, good service, good prices, nice place!
Went with some friends and the food was great. Everyone was polite and the restaurant was very clean. Food is excellent! I would definitely go again!
We visited this restaurant last week and found the food standard was kept consistantly excellant. Last Chrsitmas we were at this restaurant for dinner as well with my son in law from california, and he said he never ate such a good chinese food. The restaurant is very clean. However, The service needs some improvement; with some smiles on service personels will certainly make the customers happier.
This is the dirtiest & worst service I have ever recieved. The food, honestly tasted like toilet water. I advise truly not to go there!!!
Lawrece and his staff do a marvellous job of coping with the crowds on a Saturday or a Sunday...interesting that the Chinese guys push a little, instead of the usual rude Canadians... We visit this restaurant weekly......and I was raised on roast beef and apple pie [and Kraft Dinner] like most Canadians The food is good and great fun...it only takes one or two tries to remember the phonetic pronunciation of the chinese dishes, and if the carts don't come fast enough to suit you, then any waiter will go and collect whatever you ask for All of the tips go into a "box' and it's apparent that everyone shares....at New Years [Chinese of course] a system of red envelopes allows you to give a special reward, to an individual I've visited Hong Kong and mainland China dozens of times and the food at Summit is as good as any I've ever eaten in China or Hong Kong. This is a case of "when in Rome"....learn how the Chinese folks do it and what they enjoy and consider a specialty and your visit will be much more enjoyable,
Great service! The carts came by frequently, and the food was delicious. Many waiters stopped by to see if we were doing alright, and they were very friendly! They even taught us how to use chopsticks(the non-chopstick-users). I loved the egg tarts and the steamed buns, we will definitely visit again.
I just moved to the west end and was looking for a good Chinese place so a friend recommended Summit Garden. Food was excellent, probably one of the best I've had in the GTA. I highly recommend.
We actually got Take-out from here, and the food was sub-par.
After ordering takeout food after a long absence my wife and I both agreed that the food has gone downhill. The young chow rice lacked flavour. the rice noodle beef tasted burnt and the hot and sour soup (my favourite) was sub standard as was everything that we ordered. Maybe it was the time of day we ordered. about 4pm. and there were no real chefs on duty at that time. I will go back during evening hours and try again, as this used to be a really good restaurant.
Our first time trying hot pot (table cooking) and it was fantastic. Staff took the time to walk us through the "ettiquette" on how to cook and eat properly. Great for a cold day!
