My husband and I discovered Dai Ichi several years ago almost by accident on New Year's Eve when the Mandarin was overcrowded and behind on their reservations. I have always been grateful to Mandarin for their ineptitude. Dai Ichi is a small, out of the way place, tucked into a nondescript strip mall near a Longo's and Shopper's Drug Mart, but it is definitely one of the best sushi places in the area. Good people and outstanding food. It has become a staple with our family, and we even took a large party there for dinner one Christmas!
The cozy booth with curtains was nice, service left a bit to be desired ... small complimentary appetizers came after the main course was served. Overall, the food was very good, and I've eaten a LOT of sushi. Salmon was really fresh, tempura was a little undercooked. 2 appetizers, 2 main courses, 2 imported beer & medium saki.
Awesome Korean food! Thumbs up!
I visit once a week, at least. Have visited since 2006. Lunch. Always take a business acquaintance with me to catch up on work over good, fresh, clean food in a calm environment. Sushi is fresh. Well prepared speciality rolls and sashimi. Tempura is always crisp, not soggy or rancid. Service is good when I arrive at 12 pm. Any later in the lunch hour and they appear totally under staffed. Quaint. Friendly. Clean. Descent sushi. Professional service. Hardly any English spoken, but who cares. There is always a friendly smile and prompt service.
The sushi was good, but not phenomenal. The service was not that great the second time I went, and I havent been back since. My friend and I waited at the door to be seated while every single staff member was in a room eating and chatting - not even noticing us, and we just left. The shrimp tempura was really tasty though.
Had a birthday celebration for a bud "Mikey" at Dai Ichi and was a bit skeptical based on some of the reviews. On the contrary, "Sue" on of the waitresses was overwhelmingly amazing and sported a smile and enthusiasm the entire evening. For some of us, sushi/ Japanese is not the first choice of cuisines, nevertheless a great assortment of appetizers and entries to make any weak stomach a believer in this particular sushi restaurant. For anyone considering this place for a small event, they have partitions that provide a private dining experience and the staff is exceptionally cordial, definitely a 5/5 for our group of 11 individuals.
You like Chinese hamburgers? How about American fine dining? German veggies? Italian whale meat? So why not Korean Sushi? The reviews below mine are funny. All these suburban supermarket sushi types who think philly cream cheese is acceptable in a roll like Dai Ichi. The sushi is unauthentic, ugly and boring. What an insult. Never trust good reviews again. Should have known better. It is Mississauga after all.
I like this place, food and service were great, waitresses were nice and kind. Sushi and Sashimi were really fresh, definitely go back again!
From far the best sushi I ever eat. You HAVE TO try it. The place is really nice, service is great. Not the fastest, but great. Is far from me, but I still go there.
very good food all around. Would definitely visit again. Hasn't ever been crowded when i've gone either, so that's a plus because it's easy to get a table.
I tried this for the first time about 1.5 yrs ago but went back a few months ago. The food and service were much improved. Since Fuji-U has closed, this is definitely one of the best affordable Sushi places in Mississauga. Great selection, fresh, appetizing presentation.
We were estactic about having a good quality restaurant who takes pride in serving Sushi almost as good as a Japanese owned restaurant. The dynamite roll was a WOW! Hon maguro was pricey! Overall, wish the price was less, so we could eat there more often.
i went to dai ichi sushi today and they were so generous, i just politely told them i had allergies to certain vegetables and shrimp, so i ordered a yam only tempura and to my surprise they fried it in a whole new separate oil, so i wouldn't have allergic reactions!!!! they are so thoughtful and generous, i have never been to a restaurant who was willing to do so much for me, i tipped them $100. Honestly we need more restaurants like this in GTA and toronto area i will be a life long customer, the food is to die for!!!! i recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE!!!
We have been to half a dozen sushi places in mississauga and this is easily the best sushi restaurant that we have tried (even compared to toronto) The spicy salmon rolls are the best. We have now been there about 8 times in the past year for lunch, dinner and takeout. The food and service has been excellent every time.
To be honest the sushi wasn't bad. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. The stew and noodle soup had to be the worst I've ever eaten. It was way too salty. I couldn't add enough hot water to it which only made it taste worst and it was still too salty. All there side dishes were salty. If they could add salt to their sushi, I'm sure even that would be salty. Overall I would never go there again.
i have tried dai ichi sushi for the first time last night and boy i must say it is pretty darn good, so fresh and so quick. their shrimp rolls were still hot not warm... hot! i am so glad i found this place i have been living in mississauga for a while but fuji-u has closed down and some of the other really good places are dying down, however dai ichi restaurant was super packed, and a friend of mine told me they were always busy, and the servers try their best and they are very sincere and warm. i highly recommend this restaurant for any japanese food lover
went here for a ladies night out. food was very good and so was the service. tempura came out piping hot and big servings of veggies too along with the 5 very large shrimps. ALOE drink is very refreshing, highly recommend this. sushi was very good and good value for $40 boat...at the end of meal, we were stuffed, more than enough food for 3. one thing though, the cali maki rolls were not rolled tight enough and stuck to each other side by side. but everything else was very enjoyable.
The food is excellent, but the service is a tiny tiny tiny bit slow but the whole atmosphere makes up for that. Dia ichi is a place if you want sushi and your not afraid to try new things I strongly reccommend it
service was good, food was ok. Have ate here before, and always seems to be ok. Best thing they have on a constant basis is spicy salmon ANYTHING. Tastes great. Dont recomend the dry and thick cut of beef teriyaki, as well as the Chap Che.
I live in Calgary, but my brother first introduced me to Dai Ichi about 10 years ago, and whenever I'm in Toronto, I make sure to set aside some time to have dinner there with friends. I'm heading back in a week, and I can hardly wait.
