Their crispy spring rolls are amazing. Remember to wrap them in the lettuce leaves and mint for a unique experience. The people are great, a London icon.

After seeing the positive reviews, I decided to try it out. Boy was I wrong. Have been eating Vietnamese and Chinese food for more than 20 yrs. Beside the Pho, which was average, I would not recommend ordering other items. I ordered the rice and it's nothing but regular rice with a few tiny chopped up pieces of Chinese bbq pork, (this is not vietnamese "Com", it's chinese food.) I could get better food elsewhere for a lot better price.
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend, so I decided to try it! As soon I entered through the front door, I was greeted by the owner and showed to a seat. My husband and I sat down and looked at the menu. My husband not knowing a whole lot about Vietnamese food, was somewhat confused. The owner took the time to explain popular menu items to him and what they went with etc. I was pregnant at the time, and wasn’t eating seafood. They substituted out seafood for chicken in my meals for me with out a problem. The server/owner even showed my husband how to properly eat the food and put it together. I was really impressed with the food and the service. It seems like it is hard to come by a restaurant today where the server and rest of the staff act professional. It is my understanding that the server was the owner and his wife does most, if not all of the cooking in the back. I do have to mention, that if you like spring rolls, this is the place to get them. They are cooked to perfection.....not greasy at all.
Visiting a vietnamese restuarant in a western country definitely calls for different expectations... The food was considered authentic. Although not best I've tasted, it serves well to satisfy the cravings for such food here. The noodle in the Pho was undercooked, a little tough for our liking. Apart from that, the taste was less salty and yet was still tasty - which was good. The portion was generous but I thought they stinged a little on the other ingredients part from the rare beef. The spring roll and sauce was average, probably find it in most typical vietnamese restaurants. Loved the mango shake tho. Coconut drink was a little funny tasting... wouldn't order the coconut drink again tho. Service and ambient were just ok.. the place is ran a little like a family business... but the service people appeared as tho they weren't too keen to be working that day.
We ordered a variety of lunch/dinner items and were very pleased with each plate. The spring rolls were amazing! and the chicken chow mein & lemon grass chicken rice were also exceptionally good. Loved the beef noodle (Pho) soup, too. Our group consisted of a vegan and we were notified that all dishes can be made vegetarian at the customers request, my friend had the vegetarian soup and veggie spring rolls and it was just right for a cold afternoon. Add a little hot sauce to the soup and it's even more delicious. The staff is very friendly, attentive and offered just the right suggestions. The prices were quite reasonable compared to many vietnamese restaurants in town. We were very pleased with the entire experience and look forward to returning soon.
I'm going to try not to make this a long winded review like I usually write as it's late and I want to sleep, however I had to write this as it's been on my mind for a while now. My friends and I decided to go to this restaurant after seeing that it was in the top restaurants on restaurantica for London. It was nice that they had parking for their guests, however the area was very "sketchy" and it was strange going in their back entrance (it didn't feel right). We were seated by an older gentleman and I ordered some sort of coconut juice with coconut bits inside. It tasted odd and not really strongly of coconut. My vietnamese friend who was with us ordered a vietnamese iced coffee which she claimed was way too strong, even for her. My other friend just ordered a pop. When it came to ordering our food, I ordered a chicken chow mein, the friend who ordered the pop got a vermicelli bowl-type dish, and the vietnamese friend got a pho. The pho was apparently "just okay", the noodles in the vermicelli were funny shaped compared to what we get at our usual restaurant and not as tasty, and my chow mein was quite tasteless compared to what I've had at other restaurants. When it came to service, the waiter seemed okay, however my vietnamese friend was given chopsticks right away, my other friend (who looks very unique and maybe even part asian) was asked if she'd like chopsticks or a fork, and i was just given a fork. I found this to be very rude and insulting of them to make these stereotypical assumptions. How do they figure that I dont know how to use a pair of chopsticks (which I do), and how do they know my vietnamese friend wasn't brought up in a white family using forks? A downfall of the atmosphere was that you could hear a lady yelling something in vietnamese in the kitchen for a while. Kind of noisy when you're trying to have a peaceful meal. All in all I don't think any of us really enjoyed our meals and were kind of disappointed. We left unsatisfied for what we had paid for and wishing we'd done our usual place. Maybe it was a bad day, or maybe the people who are ranting and raving about this place are all friends and family...all I know is we won't be going back.
Great restaurant. My wife and I have come here repeatedely and always satisfied with the food. Best Vietnamese food in town though probably not best Pho (other places better if that is all you want). We even took my mother-in-law here who grew up in Vietnam and she was extremely satisfied. As others have mentioned the actual environment isn't pretty but as long as the food is great who cares!
Best Asian-style restaurant in London. Considering it is impossible to find many of the ingredients to make true Vietnamese food in Canada, this place is still very authentic. The owner/server is very kind and helpful. The atmosphere is quirky, but it only adds to the experience. A must-try!
Our family just loves this place, we've been going to the Vietnam restaurant at least 7 years. The food is consistently great, the service is fast and good, nothing fancy but absolutely fast and polite. We just love the food, even our fussy toddlers eat just about everything we order. We also do take out from there. It's a great place. And it's family-run.
I always order the pho and the rolls...always affordable and consistent. Best rolls I've had well anywhere in Canada or elsewhere. And to the response above about the beef being undercooked a bit....it's supposed to be! the beef and sprouts cook in the hot broth as you submerge them. Guess he never had pho before. Plus I'd rather the food be better than decor anywhere.
The owner and family are incredibly nice, and welcoming. The restaurant's decor is a little interesting, but seriously, all comments about the bright pink walls seem to fade as soon as the spring rolls arrive! (we always order two per person.. best part of the meal in my opinion.. pad thai heats up well for lunch the next day!) wrap it up in some fresh lettuce and mint, dip in the fish sauce, and you're hooked! The pad thai is awesome, and they're really good about switch ups like no calamari, extra chicken (no charge), and the lemon grass chicken on rice or vermicelli is incredible (and not too spicy for those less inclined towards burning lips!). Their fruit smoothies are amazing. Jakfruit ones are my favourite, and would really recommend giving them a shot. This is my favourite restaurant in town! Enjoy (and remember not to judge on appearances!)
The food, service and prices are second to none! We have eaten here many times over the past couple of years. We have never been disappointed with any menu item we've tried (which are many). The owner is terrifically friendly. We have taken friends and family here a number of times, and all leave as new fans of the restaurant. You will not be disappointed! Enjoy
so so so so so good!!! I have been away for 15 years, came back and the food and service was just as fantastic as I remembered. Family run, and they really care about your satisfaction and dining experience, and the quality of their food. So much better than the very substandard viet joint i mistakenly tried at york and talbot...great to know some things never change!! The owner will show you best how to eat your very authentic and naturally healthy and low-cal vietnamese meal, with great enthusiasm and aplomb to boot. The surroundings may not to be your taste, but if taste is what you are really looking for, you have to go and try. If unsure about what to order, just tell them you are a newbie, and you will get tremendous help and service. Believe it or not, not related, just a very happy customer!
Second time we have been here. We again had a wonderful evening with friends that we had told that the food was really good. Again I was totally amazed by the taste and the size of the portions and the prices are fantastic too. We had the Chow Mein, Lemon Chicken, and spring rolls all delicious. We will be definitely returning quite often to try all the different dishes.
I went there with my wife and son and we ordered the pho soup, and a stir fry rice. the rice was dry and the beef in the pho was way undercooked it didnt even touch it, the place is dirty inside i did not have a good time
The spring rolls were really great. Dip in the sauce, put on a mint leaf and enjoy! Pho was tasty, and not too salty like most places. Chow mein was flavourful, but chicken pieces were a little bland. Perfect amount of food for two people. Ambiance was a bit strange: Latin music playing on speakers and History Channel on LCD TV near bar. Clean and tastefully decorated.
This restaurant has lived up to it's expectations. We started with the spring rolls, absolutely amazing. We noticed that every table around us ordered them as well. My favourite dish was the beef and vegetables (comes with a lemon/pepper sauce, very peppery). The beef was tender and veggies crisp. Food portions were very good, I had to take some home as we couldn't finish. The mango shake was also excellent. Service was very pleasant and the food arrived quick. I am definitely returning. Next I will try the Pad Thai.
The food is simply fabulous but if you are going for the atmosphere, there is none. Very simple, very spartan dining area. Linoleum floor, unclean powder rooms. The cuisine is wonderful. Best for take-out.
First time we had ever been here. We had been told by other family members that the food was really good. We were totally amazed by the taste and the size of the portions and the prices are fantastic too. I had the Pad Thai and it was wonderful. The spring rolls are delicious too. We will be definitely returning quite often to try all the different dishes. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
Excellent food. The best Vietnamese food in London at really good prices. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Would recommend this place to everyone!
