Excellent

This is one of the best restaurants we have been to. The atmosphere is friendly, there is always something that everyone can enjoy whether you're 60 or 4 years old. if it's not on the menu, their wonderful chef and staff will make sure that you have what you would like. the service is warm and friendly and they remember your name. The prices are reasonable and the food is perfectly prepared.

Excellent

My wife and I have been to this charming, quaint bistro several times on our way up to the cottage. It is our favourite place to dine and the food is out of this world. For a tiny town, the food is comparable with new york city and paris. The specials are creative, the food is fresh and the vegetables- are out this world. We have brought family, friends and celebrated our anniversary there. The owners are thoughtful and the service is friendly. We never feel rushed. I was taken aback when I read a few of the reviews below. We have never had a bad meal or rude service ever. We will never stop going. I guess you can please everyone, but we will continue to sing the cassos bistro praises

disappointed

Went for a birthday celebration, though booking in person, and making sure that there would be recognition of the birthday by phone.....nothing happend.....not even a candle.......even though it was recorded in the booking list. NOT good enough.......... I am still upset about this. The service was brusque. The server totally forgot one request, and was almost rude when reminded. The food for the most part was enjoyable.

I was NOT impressed!

I went there after helping a friend close her cottage. We were both hungry and she wanted to go to Cassis Bistro. The specials board seem good so we entered. Parking was at the back in the mud as it had rained. Once we we there I went to have a look at the specials and the waitress informed me that it was the 'date night' specials and they coud be shared for a set price for two. I certainly was not on a date and I was wanting to get what I wanted to eat no matter what anyone else was eating. This limited my choices to a very mundane fare. My friend order and a salad to started and when the waitress brought her salad to the to the table she said here is your salad to share. The waitress was really getting under my skin in her none thinking assumption. I said I am not having any and I am not going to share anything. I had already been turned off by her 'date night' ( it was a Wed. night ) and now her assumption! I was angry now as well as tired and hungry. I oreder a bowel of the French Onion Soup and found it average. At eight dollars a serving I was expecting more from the kitchen. My friend went on to eat the scallops. (4 per serving) at $13 CND. She said they were 'OK" She had a glass of red wine and said it was good. I did not have anything more to eat as I was toally put off by the service. They say not to eat whilst upset or it just sits in the gut and ferments. Cassis Bistro is a very small place with old wooden chairs that look like they were purchased at an old bar's going out bussiness sale. They did play Bach I noticed at one point but as for real atmospher it is sadly lacking. Maybe the patrons have forgotten what a fine Bistro is like to eat in? My friend treated me to my eight dollar hum drum and paid the bill which was close to fifty dollars. When we were going back to her car we had to around the back in total darkness and trr try not to step in the potholes filled with water and mud. As a woman I felt ill at ease walking back there in total darkness. It just shows how little they care about their patrons. I found Cassis Bistro tacky and pretntious with a waitress who must be married to the owner because she puts guests off their food and still has a job there!!

We were celebrating a special family event while passing through Lakefield. We wanted to eat at a nice restaurant and eventually selected Cassis as the guest of honour wanted some seafood. We had an enjoyable time with good food. Two had regular menu items and three had specials. All our meals met expectations. The vegetarian option was imaginative and tasty although there were a few additions to the plate that weren't needed (pears in berry vinaigrette affected the other flavours). As mentioned in a previous review there are lots of interesting vegetables with each entree -- a nice change from so many restaurants. The atmosphere was nice and quiet with friendly service. Good coffee.
