The food is respectfully served ,,quite delicious and having eaten all German fare in Germany this eating establishment is well worth going down town. However the decor badly needs to be fresh and brightened up a lot, the old floor is good . The decorating could be more German inspired as in the Gast haus themes in Deutchland . Will still return however ,,
Food here is excellent. Everything we've tried here is tasty and feels like homecooking. Soups and salads are great, the entrees are huge and they have a good variety of imported beer on tap. Service was good. Will definitely eat here again .
Our memorable experience with Amadeus began before we even stepped foot into the place when we found ourselves without dinner reservations for New Year's Eve. I called Amadeus at 1pm on the 31st and, while they were fully booked, the woman on the phone was very accommodating and graciously fit us in. She cautioned us that we may have to wait -- even though we had a reservation. When we arrived they had a table waiting, even though it was packed inside. Our server promptly took our drink orders and remained attentive for the duration of our stay. We shared the House Platter of cold meats, Emmentaler cheese, egg, and potato salad. It was simple yet freshly prepared. The highlight of each of our meals was the schnitzel -- it was tender, flavourful and mine was smothered in a succulent cream sauce. The spätzel was perfect. I lived in Switzerland and traveled to both Germany and Austria and this café was quintessentially reminiscent of the restaurants I visited in these areas. This was our first visit and will definitely not be our last -- I can hardly wait to return!
There are restaurants you visit that sometimes have an off day. Amadeus is not one of these. We have been going to Amadeus for the past 15 years and have never had a bad meal there. Couple this with possibly the best patio in Kingston and fantastic value for money and you won't be dissapointed. The atmosphere is genuine and non-pretentious like the food. Food is german in nature, hearty, tasty and it's clear the chef knows what he's doing. The schnitzels and sausages are super tasty but also the sole, chicken paprikash and rouladen and don't forget this place has some of the best kept beer in Kingston. What I mean here is that many places serve you badly cellared beer in a glass that tastes of cleaning solution...not Amadeus. Beer is fresh and imported from Germany in many cases. Outside is definitely the place to eat though, inside the decor is slightly lacking although there is a room that reminds me of a real beer keller. Desserts are huge and very good indeed so try to leave room for them if you can. Be warned...the large plates are very large, ideal for sharing. Give Amadeus a try I thoroughly recommend them.
best scnitzel I have ever had, although I didn't like the spatzel very bland...second visit ordered potaties instead. food is good, portions too... worst problem is finding parking on the street. great for dinner or lunch.
Restaurant was very busy and the service was extremely slow. It was a good hour before we received our meals, but they were absolutely succulent! I overheard the waiter telling both tables near us tha tthey had run out of several menu items??!!
We were served by a very ignorant waitress. It had clouded over and she was reluctant to take us out to the patio (which does have a cover). Then she proceded to wave her hand to the back door when we said we would still like to have drinks out there. She then took our order from the stairway where she was safe from the few drops of rain that had started. She was about 8 feet from our table taking our order. The gentleman that had ordered food across from was, was then given his dinner slid between the slats of the railing so that she didn't have to step up the stairs and maybe get a drop of rain on her. This was all in a covered area of the patio. Three young gentlemen came out back also to enjoy their beer on the patio, and she just covered her face in her hands and also took their order from about 10 feet away from them under the safety of the covered stairs. When their drinks came, she pretty much threw them at the gentlemen. When we asked if they too were talked out of coming to the patio, they said yes. Then they asked us if our drinks were thrown at us too. This was just a very rude waitress that obviously does not enjoy her job or the fact that there is a patio at her place of employment. Unfortunately, this really is making us think twice about coming back to the restaurant, although we didn't get the chance to try the food. We lived in Germany for 4 years and are yearning to try some real tasty German food again. Hopefully by then, someone will have taken care of this "problem" person and found themselves a good waitress with a caring personality.
Great food; excellent service - we had a cute blonde server. If you love German food, try it out.
I seriously do not know how anyone can not love this restaurant-- been to Germany and Austria and if you did not know you were in canada you would think you were in europe. service-food -drink were excellent. anytime we are in kingston we eat here. a must visit. greg lehman
We have been before, we will be there again! Great food, large portions, nice atmosphere, and a super price!!!
Definately one of the better restaurants in kingston. Portion sizes are huge. BEST SHNITZEL IN KINGSTON. Thanks guys.
Do NOT go to this restaurant..Food AWEFUL. Service and OWNERS rude. Do not support sub-par service and unappreciative owners.
We have been here twice before, and the food has been so-so both times. The beer is what keeps us coming back (great German draught here). However, this time was actually really good - dare I say. I mean, it is what it is, it's not gourmet, but it was really really tasty. Schnitzel cooked well, huge portions, can't go wrong!
We are From Austrian Heritage and found the meal we ordered to be of par excellence. These are dishes for anyone.
Excellent portion sizes, but the food is a little on the bland side. Good selection of German beers! Staff is always friendly and helpful.
Couldn't be happer for a local restuarant. Food is excellent, staff friendly. I have visited many times and never dissapointed.
My favourite restaurant in Kingston. Nice little quiet place. The food is deliciousno matter what you order. Highly recommended
Great German food, schnitzel and spatzle are wonderful. Wish I could go back every day and try something new. If you like German food, this is the place. The sauerkraut and mustard were a perfect 10. Service was fast and friendly, would, no will go back again and again.
Best German/Austrian food I've been able to find in this area. Particularly the spatzle! Always have one of the schnitzel dishes and haven't had a bad one yet!
LOVE the food! My German grandma loves eating at the Amadeus Cafe because it is so tasty (good work Brian!). The decor is a bit dated. Service is great.
