A few friends of mine were in town visiting and were told to visit the Winchester for some food and pre-club drinks (plus, the Devils and Rangers game was on TV). The interior was a little dark and dated, but it felt cozy. I really enjoyed the low ceilings and black rafters. Our waiter was a friendly young fellow who helped us pick the best seats for our group. We were let to a corner area near the bar (perfect) with ample view of a few big screen TVs for the game. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly, and gave our group recommendations in terms of food and drink. We all ordered wings (it was half-price that day) and various drinks (beer, rye). I had no complaints about the wings and thought they were dressed well and were of decent size. Everybody devoured their wings and we all sat around the table chatting, eating and drinking happily. Service was great, food was good and the atmosphere was cozy. The only downfall I would say would be the washrooms. They definitely need to be updated as they are a little dingy and unsanitary. Otherwise, I'd be back.
We went there to have a nice birthday dinner with our friend. The company was great, the food and service was awful. We ordered three chicken dishes, two chicken and bacon linguines and one Chicken stir fry, Between the three dishes there wasn't even one full chicken breast and there was one tiny peice of bacon between the two linguines. The watress was unfriendly and was never anywhere to be found. I had always heard how good this place was but it was far from it that night!!
I've been a regular for quite some time to this establishment. I enjoy the atmosphere, the company, the staff. Lately, I have been finding it difficult to find a reason to go there. This is due to the fact that they seem to stop carrying the beverages that I typically go there for. I'm trying to figure out why a pub wouldn't carry Guinness or other foriegn favorites. I know my primary reason for going there was because of the beer selection. Much to my surprise, last time I was there i was informed that 'that beer' is no longer available. The food is allright, but if I wanted to pay that much money just to have a Molson Canadian with my meal... I can easily go elsewhere.
We hadn't been for a long time, but happened to be in the neighbourhood at lunch time today. So, we thought, fish and chips would be nice! It used to be quite good. Not today though. First of all prices have skyrocketed. Cheap haddock is now $12.99! The fish was ghastly, for want of a better word. The batter, instead of being light, crunchy and crispy, but pale, powdery and soggy. Fortunately the fish inside was edible, but it was obvious that this fish had been warmed over in the microwave. The liver and onions was edible, although a bit dry. The chips looked and tasted as though they were on their third fry! Dark brown, damp, and only just at room temperature. The beer was good though! We will not be visiting again. Pity, it used to be quite good for fish and chips, steak pies, etc. The restaurant was almost empty, four tables were occupied I believe. I wonder why!
I honestly have to say in the short time I've been in Canada, this is the best pub food I've had. The Arms has a back home(Ireland) feel. I loved the food, and service, and will eat there again.
Great pub food--beer and burgers were delish. The service was above our expectations; she was very friendly and attentive. I'm sure we'll be back again!
This Place not only has great food but the largest selection of on tap beers in town. You can always find a beer on tap that you can enjoy.
cutlery had to be asked for! Service was awefull. . And took for ever to get food. . . To Finalize Pack snacks, flashlight to read menu and a road map to find bathrooms on basement Will Never Go Back. . .
Simply the food it ok. Not all the time consistant. The food sometimes comes out larger than the time before. I am not sure what to expect. Before, when i came here the food was delicous. Around last August i can remember having the same thing was delicous. Now, the food taste is not really that good. Friendly staff though. Nice talking to each waitress. Needs to check up to make sure everything is ok though. I understand though, it was a Friday Night. I think they need better ideas for specials, it seems like its the same thing all the time. Though the soups are delicous and the fish is ok. Beer, who can screw that up so the beer was cold and tasted delcious. Over all 8/10
Awesome wings & Heineken on Tap! Price was little high, but overall well worth it.
Good friendly atmosphere, cold beer and cozy booths or warm tables by the fire. A trip to the bathroom is daunting however as they are located down a long flight of stairs in the cellar.
It was amazing. Fast service, got our meals hot and the taste was delicious. Amazing friendly staff and beer is decliciously cold. Good overall experience. Everyone seemed to work well together. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Go for the Fish its good.!
We visit the Winchester several times a month, usually for drinks. The food is simply OK here and the service is hit and miss. But it's a great place for drinks with friends especially in the winter by the fire.
A typical faux "British Pub". Booths are okay but tables are crowded, - and don't get seated too close to the open fire! Though a bit pricey, the menu is varied, (as is the quality of different dishes). Service was mediocre. I would visit again, - but not with enthusiasm!
WINGS FINALLY CAME WARM,AND THE SALAD FORGOT TO GO INTO THE GARDEN. TERIBLE SERVICE COLD INSIDE NEVER PAID THE HEATING BILL AND THE WASHROOMS IN BASEMENT AND TAKE YOUR COAT WITH YOU AS THEY ARE TWO FLIGHTS OF STAIRS DOWN AND THE ICE MACHINE IS THERE I AM SURE. NOT PLEASANT VISIT
