Like others who grew up in East Vancouver, I was sad to see the original Wally's Burgers shut its doors a couple years ago. Despite its appearance from the outside, this old school burger joint served up some of the freshest, made to order burgers in town. They also had awesome shakes and fries.
When we heard that some people had purchased the original recipes from the old owners and had opened up a new Wally's Burger not too far away, we had to try this place out. The place is nice but it lacked the old diner charm and nostalgia that made Wally's so iconic. The menus include only a couple of Wally's original burgers and they are still being made to order. However, they just didn't quite seem the same. The patties didn't seem as juicy as I remember and the sauce lacked the kick the original had. The order of fries we got with the burgers was huge so I'm glad we decided to share it. Prices are a little higher than they were at Wally's but not outrageous.
I still think that this place has the potential to do well and they do have a die hard following. At the end of the day, I would say that it beats most fast food burgers but it just didn't live up to the original.
