Something happened to designer Lorraine Kitsos after she gave birth to her second child. After studying business in university, she unleashed her creative side and began making children's clothing while living in Hong Kong and travelling across Asia. She was inspired by the bright, bold colours and patterns of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo, as well as the enchanted fairytale books she would read to her children.
"I starting selling my clothes to friends and family, and then it grew organically from there," she explains. She named her label Redfish Kids Clothing, inspired by the colours and patterns of Hong Kong's ubiquitous koi fish.
Redfish designer Lorraine Kitsos keeps messy little ones looking sharp in her Asian-inspired designs that are clean and modern while still remaining kid-friendly. The label’s Hornby Street flagship shop has attracted a cult-like following among local parents and even some celebrity fans. From cropped leggings to Oxford-style button-ups to striped crewneck tees, each versatile piece is designed to stand the test of time. Fashions are locally made in Vancouver, but the pre-shrunk fabrics are sourced from around the world and are chosen for their originality and durability.
Kids may prefer toys to clothes when it comes to birthday gifts, but that could change when the gift is a super-chic outfit from Redfish Kids. The birthday boy or girl will be the coolest kid on the block when they're sporting the Hong Kong-Shanghai-Tokyo-inspired street fashions from this hip Vancouver shop. For bonus points with the little ones, Redfish also carries a selection of unique toys and treasures to go along with their designer duds.
