Born and raised in Vancouver’s Fraserhood, Deandra Vaughn had been dreaming of having her own salon for six years before she opened the doors to Heartbreaker Salon. When she decided to strike out on her own, she poured her creativity, sweat and passion into building her own business, even working on the ceiling and floors long after the contractors had left for the night.
Deandra envisioned a “modern cabin” feel for the salon that would be relaxed and warm. She sourced reclaimed wood and vintage furniture that had elements of mid-century modern design and cheeky nostalgia. In the reception area and by the dryers, she hung a collection of bawdy vintage polaroids (the subjects happen to be her family!).
For her team, Deandra custom-built stations that were wider and more comfortable than conventional stations, and as ergonomically correct as possible: “I wanted it to be a place that stylists enjoyed working in. Happy stylists mean happy clients.”
In July 2011, as soon as the frontage was up, “It was game on,” she says.
Booked an appointment with Chane during Covid times but the salon was very clean, well prepared and I felt totally safe. Chane did an amazing job on my cut and style and I highly recommend her to everyone. She is friendly, professional, and always gives me exactly what I ask her for. Looking forward to my next visit with her.
