At any time of day, giovane café + eatery is bustling with a surprising mix of people from the Coal Harbour neighbourhood. Hotel guests relax with a cup of coffee, colleagues meet to discuss business, friends catch up over the eatery’s famed sugar buns and lovers can lock eyes over a glass of expertly selected Italian wine. Suits or sweatpants: somehow the sleek interior is a welcoming space for all.
It’s this sense of relaxation and neighbourhood experience that executive sous chef Atticus Garant believes makes the eatery so popular. “For me, we have a little bit of everything but still maintain an authentic atmosphere. I feel like I belong here when I sit down. I can be anyone I want to be.”
Located on the ground floor of the five star Fairmont Pacific Rim, giovane café + eatery is West Coast modern meets European city chic. The bright interior features dark yellow leather wall benches, polished wooden tabletops and large windows. Photographs by Vancouver’s own Fred Herzog adorn the walls, while whimsical features such as a candy bar and a creatively designed coffee menu add additional flavour to the space.

Tip: order a Panini stuffed with your choice of savoury fillings (roasted turkey, braised pork, herb-roasted mushrooms are all on offer), and don’t forget to try the candy bar for dessert.

A seeming transplant from a trendy district in Berlin, Milan or Paris, Giovane Café is luxurious, sleek and modern. Part of Fairmont Pacific Rim, the café retains its own atmosphere and style. Underneath original prints from Vancouver photographer Fred Herzog, professionals meet throughout the day at one of the polished wood tables – far enough apart for even the most confidential conversations. Breakfasts and Italian pastries are a specialty, but in the evening Giovane turns into a wine bar, making it a go-to option for any time of day.
