In 2011, Josh Bloomfield came up with a great idea to give guided bicycle tours to small groups of people around downtown Vancouver. The idea has proven to be so good, in fact, that Cycle City Tours has been voted one of the top three activities in Vancouver by Trip Advisor reviewers pretty much since the company got going. Indeed, an overwhelming 95 percent of the site’s reviews give the company an excellent rating.
Josh came up with the idea after cycling extensively through Southeast Asia and China. After first considering launching cycling tours over there, Josh instead decided that Vancouver would be a more doable alternative. He explains why: “What’s great about Vancouver is that you can be cruising through the Stanley Park rainforest one minute, then pop over to Granville Island for lunch, and then be in Chinatown and Gastown shortly afterward, exploring these historic neighbourhoods.”
The tour that he’s talking about is Cycle City’s Grand Tour, which takes groups on a circuit around Stanley Park to English Bay, then over to Granville Island, and then along the False Creek seawall past Olympic Village and Science World to Chinatown and Gastown, before finally returning along the Burrard Inlet waterfront back to the meeting spot.
