The atmosphere at Hempyz is unlike that of most stores. From hemp-made clothing, to smoking paraphernalia, to fun novelty gifts and works of art, Hempyz offers unique products and welcomes all shoppers. Kat Thomas, the current manager, was overjoyed when she was first asked to start work here. "It was the cool store, where everyone in Langley hung out," she recalls. "It was the most interesting place." Even before finding her place as manager, Kat always felt welcome in the shop, as do all visitors.
Kat recalls one day when a young girl of around four years-old came into the store with her mother. She spotted a particularly colourful bracelet and decided she just had to have it. With some skilled negotiating, the youngster offered her artistic talent in the form of a stick figure drawing, and a deal was made—she got her bracelet. While Kat is quick to point out that not everyone will get that kind of deal, she does assure that everyone will feel just as welcome at Hempyz as that special little girl.
