The Peace River Curling Club held their grand opening in the current building. Ten community-minded people took the initiative to raise the funds and build a new rink. The plan, at that time, was to have a three phase development. There was to be a curling rink, a skating rink and across the alley, a new arena. It was a heavy blow when the plan was abandoned in favor of an arena project in the north end of town.
