This local chocolate company is small but does amazing work. They create award-winning chocolate bars, in flavours such as salt and vinegar chip, carrot cake, caramel pecan, lemon dill and honey rosemary. While some of the flavour combinations may seem strange, they taste absolutely amazing. Most of the flavours are gluten-free and some are dairy-free or soy-free. The maple pecan and blueberry is a personal favourite of mine, but you can’t go wrong with salted caramel and pretzel or strawberry basil. Even people who aren’t huge chocolate fans will go nuts for these little treats.

Chocolatier Rebecca Grant is a Red Seal chef who loves chocolate almost as much as I do, so she made it her career in 2012, opening Violet Chocolate Co. Her mad skills won her gold at the Canadian National Chocolate Awards in 2013. Quirky flavours range from raspberry pepper lime and honey rosemary to salt and vinegar chip. She even throws out seasonal flavours, such as pumpkin chai. Hot damn!

And, the bars are the ideal size for stocking stuffers – you could even give an assortment of flavours, since the prices are reasonable. And, many of their chocolate bars are gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free, making them the perfect gift for your relative with allergies or food sensitivities. Plus, they often do seasonal flavours. While Violet Chocolate Company doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar store of their own, their bars are available at multiple stores around the city.
