When Harmeet Kapur opened the 27-seater New Asian Village restaurant in 1983, all he wanted to do was introduce Edmonton to fine Indian cuisine. “We were not very busy at the start, so I offered burgers and pizza to widen the accessibility, and that way I gradually introduced people to Indian food by enticing their curiosity.”
With five locations across Edmonton, and one in St. Albert, Harmeet’s initial mission has been a great success. “We would get a lot of British people coming to our restaurant. Doctors, lawyers, tourists...Indian food is very popular in Britain,” says Harmeet. “I wanted to offer a different experience than the mom and pop shops that were around: high standards of cleanliness and tasty food, that’s all.”
Yesterday night we went there for dinner. Unhygienic, pricey and bad taste (bloody uncooked chicken). Customer service bad too. Manager was very rude They don't know how to treat the customers. Not going back again.
