For as long as he can remember, Samir Asfour entertained thoughts about being a barber. "I always enjoyed cutting hair," he says. "But I've never looked at it as a job. I used to admire my uncle when he used to cut hair and thought it would be a fun thing to do."
Today, he shares ownership of two Mr. Barber Shop franchises (one at 3210 - 82 Street and the other at 1521 - 50 Street) with his brother Mahmed. Their uncle, Mohammed Sweiss, who started Mr. Barber Shop in 2008, runs his own barber school located downtown on Jasper Avenue. The family connection may have been a strong incentive to get into the trade, but according to Samir, the idea of clipping locks and being an entrepreneur is still as fun as when he was a young boy.
So very disappointing. Never again. I waited for 2 hours to have a haircut. There are 4 barbers available. One of the barbers is in the wash room area and stayed there for 45 minutes, and he other barber never entertain any customer. There are 4 customers , including myself, waiting to be served. I went home after 2 hours without being served. I promise to myself NOT to go again to MR. BARBER SHOP.
It is what it says it is - a barber shop. Hot towel shaves, beard trimming, haircuts - if you like the sound of this as a career, they’ve also created a comprehensive training program that will have you snip-snipping your way to a new path in life in no time.
Have you been begging your dad relentlessly for a new haircut? Or maybe he just needs some maintenance on his lumberjack-esque facial hair. Get him a new fade and a hot shave here and he’ll be thanking you forever. Mr. Barber has shops across the city, so he’s never too far away to stop by. Hell, even if your dad has, like, eight hairs total, these pros will take care of him.
