Midtown Kitchen & Bar invites you to their dining room. Come sit at the bar with a drink and relax on their terrace under the sun. They are open nightly all week. You can get there not only by bicycle but also by public transit. They are in a quiet neighborhood acknowledged for its nightlife.
Since opening in the summer of 2013, Midtown Kitchen and Bar has established itself as a neighbourhood pub that offers the best in craft beers, boutique wines and spirits and its menu ups the ante for pub food. Its dedication to independent producers and sheer volume of selection sets is apart. A dozen regional craft beers are served on tap with three-dozen more labels available by the bottle. Midtown also serves four-dozen types of red, white and rosé wines, mainly by smaller producers. The spirits list features over 100 names. “It’s a daunting list, but some people love it because there are so many things they can work through,” muses co-owner Ric Cutillo. He notes that some take advantage of Midtown's Wednesday night half-price bottles of wine as an opportunity to try something new. “We have regulars that come in and try something different every week.”
A trip to Midtown could entail the discovery of local Village Brewery, Tool Shed or Wild Rose beers, boutique wines from California or a gourmet meat plate cooked in house. “I like giving people a reason to go out. If you can get all our wines and beers and you could cook the same way we do in the kitchen, why would you go out?” jokes Ric. Midtown is among a growing number of establishments that are bringing the late evening vibrancy of Kensington further north on 10th Street Northwest.
This contemporary Kensington pub and restaurant boldly reinvents eggs Benedict. A cone-shaped English muffin “coronet” holds delicate, spherical egg drops and “encapsulated” Hollandaise sauce. House-made bacon and pickled red onion complete this playfully edible cornucopia.
